I Don't know, all i know is on the face of it Tonga is exactly the same GPU as Tahiti, it has the same specifications, but they are not the same GPU.

One is Tonga, a GCN 1.2 GPU with over 2x the Tessellation Throughput, Delta Colour Compression, Texture Compression.... the other has none of those things, it is Tahiti, GCN 1.0, a different architecture. its faster per Shader.

Likewise this has the same specifications as Hawaii, but its not listed as Hawaii, its listed as Grenada, this may indicate that like Tonga is to Tahiti it has the same specifications but is also not the same GPU.

Who knows.
But a 7770 is a different GPU name to a 7970, despite having the same architecture etc.

I just think you try and over complicate.

I'd be surprised if the 390X is anything other than an 8GB 290X, but I'd be disappointed if it's exactly that.

Your not the only one who would be disappointed.

No one will buy it if it is just a 290X under another name.

It has a market, price dependent, but there's no chance it'll come any cheaper than current 8GB 290X cards as far as launch goes. Which is a backwards step.

It's not the first time AMD have weakened their own price/performance in the market though.

I'm going straight for Fiji, but I have a feeling I'm not going to own one on the 17th.

Well lets wait before denouncing it, talk of it being a 290X in a new suit as fact is presumptuous and short sighted.

I don't believe that it is but that's also not a fact.

Is the 490/x still due by the end of this year?

Dude, calm down can we not get this launch out the way first! :p

Think the last I read was it'll probably be when HBM2 is ready and - hopefully - on the next process shrink. So I'd guess next year.

If the Fury (x) are going to be 4GB HBM then I guess Q3/Q4 this year will be 8GB versions of those if do-able, poss even on HBM2 if that hits before the process shrink on the GPU.

TBH, no idea. :D

And like I said, I'm aware.

That doesn't make me any less "meh" about the HBM hype.

ok, then that's down to you I guess. Not like it hasn't been know for a while and as you say you where aware of it. So... dunno. :/

But at least wait until it's out and we see what it may or may not do before getting too "meh" about it. :)
