Quick question: are AMD GPU's larger/hotter/less efficient (to whatever degree, Hawaii quite a bit, Fiji a hell of a lot less) than GM204/GM200 partly because they use some die space to add to certain areas of compute performance?

In Vulkan and DX12 the extra features and vastly more parallel architecture that is GCN won't go un-used, unlike old DX.

If its 1.5X the performance of a 290X, then looking at benchmarks and doing the maths.

It sits in between the 980 and titan x, on some games but matches and beats the titan in others.

Example from guru 3d used 4gb version of R290

Hitman Absolution @ 2560x1444

Titan x 98fps
R290 x 67/2 = 33.5+67 = 100fps

Metro last light same rez

Titan X 72fps
R290 x 50fps same maths comes out at 75fps

Looking at the numbers the Fury X beats the titan @ 2560x1444 by a small fraction. ;)

I'm not wanting to get involved in the petty squabbles that appear to be taking hold in here, but the most interesting product appears to be the nano.

Even the most anti-AMD of people should be able to see the merits of this product, which represents the potential game-changer of HBM and is pretty much unique.

Indeed. The Nano looks quite cool. Depends on what it is priced at though.

nvidias strategy will be undone?

HBM2 is 7 months away according to road map for pascal.

nvidias strategy worked perfectly get everything out before AMD then if AMD wins oh well.

Nvidia enjoyed a record breaking 980 release and a year of increased sales leading to record market share and record profits.

That is a pretty good strategy. AMD likely has around 8 months to sell Fury before Pascal turns up.Soemthing tells me they wont make as much profit as Nvidia int his round.

I'd be a bit miffed if I had ordered a 980ti two weeks ago and was still waiting for it now. To watch these reveals so shortly after must make people question purchases.

The one I've ordered isn't in stock until early July, (eta). Tbh it would have been nice to see AMD benchmarks. But after this presentation, were still as much in the dark about how theese cards will perform as we were yesterday.

Indeed. I will definitely be holding on to my 980 until the die shrink now. I suspect these big powerful 28nm will look silly once Pascal is released.

I very much doubt between them you would notice any difference, a difference worth £400+
Now the jump from 290x to 980ti is massive and something you would notice.

Probably, but the difference is more like £200 if you buy wisely / compare the prices. 12GB of vram will no doubt keep the X relevant longer than it's lilttle brother.
