i dont think they'll drop the existing TX in price, because this will anger too many people, they'll get around it by reducing the RAM.....then the price.

the 980 according to Gibbo ``will never have 6gb``.... is this because the 6gb has always been reserved for another much more powerful card

the TX is massively popular...huge sales, so it's common sense to leave it as is, reduce its RAM, change its cooler and rebrand it as the next GTX 980

The Titan X has been generally very well received apart from the price and probably most people want one. So yes it's massively popular on that basis. But huge sales? I doubt the numbers of people buying a 900 quid card is overwhelming. Don't fall for the hype around it selling out.

You are right that AMD can't sell a Titan X beating 390X (if they had one which is more or less impossible) because the make simply doesn't see that value in AMD car, but I doubt it will as cheap as £500 if it beats the TX. AMD want to sell the 390x at a high a price point as possible that still generates significant sales, maximizing their profit.

TBH buddy, i made up the £number.
Everything is sold in dollars, so my guess for the hypothetical 390X was $699 (whatever that magically turns into for us, no idea) which is a fair wack for an AMD card.

Investors want to know how well or not a company will do in the future, especially when they launch a new product.

AMD expected Llano to do well, that much is obvious as they over produced them, they had to write $100m worth of Llano chips off, scrap them.

So this is what they told them, they couldn't tell them "Llano is going to sell like fresh Dog Poo"

From that perspective AMD couldn't win, they expected it to do well, they manufactured in such quantities, they were wrong.
At the end of the day investment is not too unlike gambling, you take a punt that you might make a profit.

Only in America can you sue someone for your own stupidity.

Hopefully though the judge will have the good sense to rule that AMD's expectations were genuine.
Investors gambled and lost.

If you read the article the claims are that AMD lied about the levels of production early on which artificially inflated their value, so even if Llano had been a runaway success AMD wouldn't have had the stock they had claimed to meet demand.

I haven't read all through this thread so apologies if this has already been answered. I seem to recall reading that maybe there would be a release in April, so is there any chance the 380x could be released this month? I know most of you guys are probably more interested in the 390 and it looks like at least June before it's out and the lower cards are probably rebrands. But if it's close I'd like to wait and see what it's like.

Very nearly bought one of the 970's on offer this week but it went out of stock while I was deciding!

Nothing has been officially announced, so you are going to have to wait for another month I suppose at least.

So sick of waiting... Don't have a gpu currently but a 980 is more than I'm comfortable spending on a gpu and I know as soon as I get one amd will release another 5870. Not because im a fanboy but because sods law.
