Thing is with the Freesync, its a Vesa standard so i think more and more monitors will become certified with time as they are released.

Freesync is not a VESA standard.

Adaptive sync is an optional part of the VESA Display port 1.2a standard.

It will only become more common if AMD (or someone else takes it up) pull their finger out and produce some cards that can use it (and drivers for their currant cards), otherwise it will always just be a niche product that will wither and fail, as so many other great technologies have.

What's annoying me is that the likes of OCUK and others are stating "Freesync Monitors" when their not, they are adaptive sync monitors.

Freesync been AMD's bit that makes use of a adaptive sync monitor .

Sorry, rant over :o

I think some of you may as well give up moaning about freesync/adaptive sync.

They have pretty much become synonymous now for most people, and it's likely people will just keep referring to freesync alone.

Like calling a vacuum cleaner a hoover. Though I thankfully seem to have cured my other half of that :D

It only really becomes relevant once other companies offer their own support for the adaptive sync standard. Until then, there's only Freesync so may as well call them Freesync monitors.

If it is added in as optional for the "a" standard, would we not expect it to be fully integrated into DP1.3?

Also, what is likely to happen to mainstream displays going forwards?
Would they ever take up DP instead of HDMI?
You could then have the next range of consoles using it. (As I understand it AMD are fairly ubiquitous in console GPU)

Displayport 1.3 was released back in September 2014, Adaptive sync is still only a optional component of the standard.

As for moving into more mainstream displays, monitor wise the dearer monitors do tend to have a Displayport connector, but the cheaper ones seem to go for just DVI/HDMI or even just a VGA connector.

As far as Televisions go, I cannot see it catching on as it doesn't have a ARC (audio return channel) like HDMI does (or Ethernet but that is not as important) which a lot of TV's use.

water cooling it would be a bit pointless as the cooler is not loud and cools so well that you can overclock it just as far as water cooling.

also it would destroy the resale value the only reason j would is when running a pair or more of them.

All this waiting is boring, I used to have 295 x2 and due to no drivers for crossfire and no new cards I was forced to go NVidia.

In all honesty the £600 I paid for the 295 was good for a handful off games, but no I have zero issues but has cost me an extra £300 on top of that.

I hope amd picks up the game as they are just losing custom everywhere.

I swore I wouldn't return to NVidia due to high prices proprietary tech and wanted to support amd's values but they need to remain competitive.

Please amd come back fists swinging for the good of the pc community.

+1

We can't be expected to support a competitor that does not compete.
