Post how many PCs you run 24/7 at home ?

1. Runs everything. is my desktop and runs all my servers.

believe it or not but hardware these days is powerfull enough to deal with it. there is very little excuse for as many as the OP :rolleyes:
 
True, I virtualise too, but running a live Linux server on a Windows host is asking for trouble, and running Mac OS X on a Windows host is asking for lawyers. :p
 
none, I used to run my laptop 24/7 for a couple of months but that was only because until I fixed it, it would be very problematic to turn back on once turned off.
 
Mine runs 24/7 now in Uni.

Only turn it off if something has been updated and it needs restarting.

My Linux server runs 24/7 doing various things (samba/network services/web/mysql/etcetcetc). I used to have the services split across 3 servers but now its all been rolled all down into one.

The HTPC hibernates/standbys and wakes up as required. Everything else is off unless specifically needed.
 
None anymore. Used to have 2-4 atleast. Now its just two laptops, on when doing a job. The macbook goes to standby (lid closed) when not doing anything. The Dell XPS travels with me at all times.
 
1, left to do my downloads and anything else that might be going on. Also it helps me sleep cos iv got so used to it.

Work colleague of mine has three servers, an 1TB NAS Array a couple of PCs and a gigabit network backbone.

What the hell does he do with it all?


No machines are left on 24/7 in our house unless it's my desktop and then only until the torrents have finished! ;)
