Post your hard drive benchmarks!

You running yours with NCQ/TCQ on or off naro?
I'm actually not sure. I don't see the option inside my Adaptec 39320A's BIOS.

May I know what's the performance HDTach benchmarks for a single 15k.5 SAS? They are blazing fast at 230MB/s for 2 hdds in Raid 0.
 
Hi, sorry I didn't test the drives on their own but Seagate specify "Up to 125-MB/s sustained transfer rate".
 
The sustained transfer rate for my 146gb 15k.4 ranges from 58MB/s to 96MB/s and i'm getting about 78MB/s for a single drive.

I guess the higher platter density and 16MB cache does help in terms of performance.
 
I would've thought your 15K.4's would be a bit faster than that. What slot on your motherboard does your Adaptec RAID controller go into?

Nothing special this time. Not enough drives to show the controller's true performance. I have space for 3 more of these in the future.

I'm running the Adaptec 39320A card on the PCI-X slot on my Asus P5WDG2-WS Pro.

WHen i increased the number of drives in Raid 0 to 3 and 4 hdds, the transfer rate seems to be stuck at 150MB/s. I've no idea why this happens. I've forced the PCI-X slot to work at 133Mhz, but it still fails to increase, and it includes the interface bandwidth too.
 
Unfortunately it might be a while before I need any more disks for main storage.

I managed to find some benchmarks on the net though:

I actually got a slightly faster average read speed (231.1MB/s) and slightly lower random access time (5.6ms) personally on the same setup but with 32KB Stripe. It could also be that he was using 300GB drives whereas I am using 73GB ones. I'm almost tempted at registering my version of HDTach to see if my write speeds are that high too.

Transfer rate looks good, but is the access time a bit high and the burst rate a bit low?

That is very impressive to say the least!
 
Seagate 250GB 8mb IDE Drive.

I'm still running an IDE drive and am thinking about getting a SATAII to replace it but really don't want to have to reinstall everything (I have a lot on there). I could use the Seagate disc manager to clone onto the new drive but then all the guff would be cloned too.

Can anyone tell me from my bench if I would see a drastic improvement or only minimal for the upgrade?
