Post your hard drive benchmarks!

2x 250GB WD SE16 in RAID0, 16k. What's up with the burst speed?

3 x seagate 250gb (410AS) @ 64KB with write back cache on

Do you find that with your h/d's setup as they are that windows etc is faster/snappier, i.e aside from just benchmarking?

What spec are you running with? Mobo, Raid controller?

I only ask as I am soon to buy some new h/drives and have heard that these are the fastest 7,200's especially in raid 0?

thats pretty good i think all the manufactureres are following seagate for those drives to be that fast they must be single platter

My only concerns is the bandwidth of the seagate is a little low (its a SATA2) and that the raptor only has 8.2ms seek when it says on the description:

- Capacity: 150GB
- Cache: 16MB
- Interface: SATA
- Spin Speed: 10000RPM
- Seek Time: 4.6ms
- Warranty: 5 Years

Astonishing, it's a shame they cost so much!

£550 :eek::eek::eek:

Yeah its an expensive controller, there was a bit of a premium at the time for PCI-E/SAS.

But you do get a lot of bang with the latest 800MHz Intel IOP processor and 512MB onboard DDR2 for caching.

There's also a further premium due to Areca always releasing cards which are faster than competitors' equivalents which use similar components.

The support isn't great though but performance is top notch.

Don't worry that seek time looks normal judging by what others are getting.

SATA2 just means the interface it uses is capable of up to nearly 300MB/s, the device itself won't achieve anywhere near that. When WD released the revised versions of the Raptors, they didn't bother with SATA2 as there was little benefit other than from a marketing perspective.
