Nice to see a comparison between the raptors and blacks.
Not much in it really.

I can store a 100 meg image file on both arrays and load it up in PS3, the Velociraptors feel miles faster than the blacks. Access is streets ahead of the blacks too.

For the price the blacks are great in raid0 though. I made a perfect decision for what i needed on my array setup.

Both run a 128 stripe

Heres a couple of mine..

Two 250GB Seagate 7200.9 (SATA 1) drives in RAID attached to SAS ports on ASUS P6T. Not breathtaking performance but the improvement compared to the single drive (above) is about what I expected.

Thanks for posting that benchy bud, that was the exact one i needed to see. I have 2 re 320's was wanting to add another one (or maby two :p ) to add to the array. Looks to be a good gain over 2 drives. PS your burst rate looks on the low side though. Is write cache enabled ?

Not bad at all for a single drive I'd say.
PRetty good for a hdd, I was looking for this measures to decide to buy SSD or not.. that helped me a lot, thanks:)
Looks like it is worth buying even a Solid series, cause SSD have constant read performance, even a lowest models can provide with 150MB/s speeds. Unless writing is issue for you....
