New addition to the 'stereo' part of my system :D

Beresford Caiman DAC

Amazing little thing, received absolutely rave reviews/testimonials online etc especially bearing in mind the price, and I've been looking into ways of improving the sound from my Squeezebox so I thought I'd try one.

Initial thoughts are that the sound is a lot more detailed, less harsh in the higher frequencies, bass is more solid and the soundstage appears better. The Squeezebox has some fantastic electronics inside it considering the price, but there's always room for improvement, and the DAC has improved it greatly even on my modest system :)

I'm forever amazed by how crap the pictures are on the Iphone.

New house and some new kit.

Hifi

Primare I21 Amp (Rotel 1552 Power Amp at the bottom but thats getting sold)
Densen Beat B-410 CD Player
Canton Vento 820 Speakers (I can't stress how great these are compared to some others i tried at a much higher price)
All sat on my pretty new Atacama Equinox stand

AV Stuff
Panasonic P42X10
Panasonic BD60
Sky HD
Not linked to the hifi as its added drama for the mrs and her kids and as long as music sounds great i'm not too bothered.

Would a squeezbox be good at playing mp3s from the pc. Cos in the near future Im going to be connecting everything up to my av amp. Tv, dvd, vcr, media player and freeview/sky, and I was gonna connect my pc up to the av amp to play my mp3s on aswell, but would I be better with something that will stream my music form my pc's hdd,, ummmmm.. But the prob is, I want good SQ from the device, cos Im spending about £1500 on speakers??

SB is more than capable of plaing mp3's though its not really a high quality format, FLAC/WAV/ALAC would be better. You could also upgrade to a better DAC at a later date as SB's have digital outs, though its probably not worth bothering if your only outputting through an AV amp.

One of the worst photos ever (god bless my phone), but

I was a little underprepared for how big they are, h x w x d = 90 x 20 x 38cm.

At the top are my KEF Cresta 2s, which are now unused until I get a 5.1 amp over summer when they'll become rear surrounds.

Literally, the bass goes so low and fits in perfectly; compared to subs which really just aren't the same for music as they feel unbalanced. It's also not overpowering, but just 'right'.

Listening to live DVDs (eg Eric Clapton Tribute to Robert J - I recommend this for awesome quality sound btw) is amazing, and the double bass on Miles Davis Freddie Freeloader is beautiful.

Give it some dubstep and they wob like anything too! :D

I believe they are +- 3dB down to 35Hz.

The amp is a NAD C352.

cost of components so far:
KEF Cresta 2: £50
NAD C352: £80
TDL RTL3: £100.

All in all it's a wicked sounding setup imo.

There are air vents on either side as well as the top, plus the PS3 is raised to channel air out from underneath.

The spot it sits on actually has very little in the way of vents too.

it's the 1610 I'm afraid, I couldn't warrant the extra connections as I'd never use them.
Think it's a great AV for the money though. :)

it's your kit ;) but i would never do this
- amp needs to be able to cool down properly, blocking top is not recommended
- heat rises : can't be good for PS3 as it will get hot, fans will have to work harder to keep it cool and also increases fan noise during playback
