Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Those pics look familiar Lowe!
Nice setup :)

That sub is massive, makes my old MS309 look like a paperweight in comparison.

Heh, cheers fella. ;)

It'll be better once we're all decorated and can lose the naff carpet and I can get the acoustic tiles up. I wallmounted the DB1i over the weekend, christ that was a scary hour, £1000 being suspended up in the air by 6 screws.

Here's my setup, work in progress, but by next week it'll probably be all done. So, I'll give you what will be the finished specs:

Panasonic P50V20
Linn AV5103 pre-amp
Linn AV5125 power amp, bi-Aktiv
Linn Sneaky DS (controlled by iPod touch 4G 8GB)
Linn Ninka (maple, bi-Aktiv) on Linn Skeets
Linn Silver interconnects
Linn K400 speaker cable
Netgear ReadyNAS Duo (1x1.5TB, might put in another for backup)
Sony PS3 + PlayTV + Blu-Ray remote

Router, currently D-Link DIR-615 + Linksys AM-200 with AM-300 firmware (crap, will be replaced).

Cabinets are black-brown Ikea Bestas, with black gloss doors. The hinges are crap, but the two cost £167, and were the only ones big enough for my needs! 120cm wide each, 6 shelves, 2 of them.

Didn't go for the 3D model of this TV because:

  • The Panasonic range was far better than anything else on the market (as you probably know), due to ex-Pioneer engineers and Pioneer technology being used in the panels, but...
  • Saw the 3D and 2D models side-by-side, and for 2D content, the 3D model wasn't as good. It just looked a bit washed out in comparison.
  • 3D features would be used very, very rarely anyway.
  • Virtually all who have tried will agree, the Panasonic glasses are crap.
Even though the AV5103 is old, bought it because it still is an incredible pre-amp. Sure, it doesn't support any of the modern HD audio formats but as I'm running a stereo setup, I can just send PCM through optical. Probably sounds better with lossy audio than 99% of the modern pre-amps running lossless audio too ;)

Apologies for the picture quality...iTouch camera is terrible!

Congrats! The Rx6s are fantastic speakers. What finish did you get yours in?

They are natural oak. Your setup must sound epic, I wont be able to afford the matching centre and rears for a very long time.

I spent all night listening to music on them last night, they have totally blown me away.

......that sub..........................

You can always go bigger!

Just received a pair of ex-demo MA BR1's for absolutely nothing. A friend works in the local hi-fi shop and decided to give them to me after I demo'd them for my desktop setup. Not the newest of speakers but do I love a bargain.

:D

!

lamboman - did you have any depth issues with that cabinet? I was measuring up for a new AVR and it seemed to be a very tight fit in the Besta. I have the same one but with 2 glass doors.

Could always take a door off though if I had to

cheers

I was in the same boat, had to do the whole setup in stages. Was totally worth the wait when I was able to afford each extra part.

All I can say is if you are going to do it properly then the final result will be worth it. :D

What's the gain of having sub cabinets that big? Making the acquisition of asbo's quicker?

The cylindrical design has the speaker at the bottom and therefore the 'column' is only as wide as the speaker itself. This means that it has to be physically tall to match the same internal volume as a typical cabinet box. It basically gives you the ability to use very large speakers without it taking (at least in length/width) much space. I think it also means there's less issues with placement, they don't cost much to build as a DIY thing either. It's not necessarily a volume thing with size.

The absolutely huge subs are meant for people who can do the whole home-theater at reference level thing, some use a room, usually a basement as an infinite baffle design meaning you have a room-sized sub. Detached house/sound-proofed home theater room jobbies, and if you can afford stuff like that, then you can afford those subs.

For reference: Linn AV5103/AV5125 depth is 35.5cm. Cabinet depth is 39.5 cm. I put them as far forward as possible to give me enough space for cables, and I have 4.5cm space from the back of the cabinet to the wall for that. It's a tight fit with cables, and they are pushing up against the back wall, however, it does fit.

Hope this helps!

thanks man. I am looking at a pioneer VSK-1020 which is 37.9.. but I do have the glass door which gives another 1 cm clearance. its going to be very tight but if the 37.9 includes the speaker posts on the amp it might just fit. I can always leave the cables hanging outside of the cabinet.
