My little setup in my living room

I bought one of them racks, really not bad for the price. Bit flimsy but fine when it's screwed together. I Didnt measure it properly though - it wasnt deep enough for my amp

The Amp and Sub were only installed today, hence the relative tidyness of it :)

Definitely a step up from the old Onkyo HT-R390 Receiver with passive subwoofer.

I haven't completely tweaked it yet, but the auto calibration seems okay, if a little full on the sub. The speakers are 80Hz to 20Khz, so I have set the crossover to 80Hz on the receiver. The sub goes from 35Hz to 85Hz on its crossover dial so that is set at 85Hz. This is my first active sub and I connected it via a single to dual RCA Subwoofer cable (dual at sub end), I have done lot's of reading on the way to set this up but happy to take any obvious pointers.

New TV for the lounge. Been wanting to upgrade from my trusty LG 42" for a while, but could never decide.

For me the TV choice at the moment is pants, they haven't really made a top notch 4k TV yet and you can't even buy a top notch 1080p set anymore! I was waiting and waiting for a PS64F8500 or similar but they're like hens teeth. The death of plasma is a tragedy, LCD is just pap imo even the very 'high end' sets of 2015 can't compete for contrast of 5 year old pannys/pioneers. What a waste.

Anyway the solution for me was a cheapo set :). I'm actually a DTV Software Engineer for the company that makes these so I'm confident I can get the best out of it, and it was dirt cheap.

Finlux 65FTE242S :D. I still have my JVC X-3 in the dedicated room for proper film watching, but for gaming and TV this thing is great.
Going to calibrate and post my results tonight.

Hmm...

Finlux 65FTE242S-T Picture Quality

The first thing to say about this Finlux is that it’s very intolerant of low quality sources. We’re not exactly sure what panel they are using but it appears to have low bit depth so if the source is of even moderately questionable quality, you are likely to see blocking and colour banding (strange hues in colour transitions) effects, especially in darker scenes.

To put that in to context, a 1080p stream of Extant from Amazon, via the Fire TV, could look distinctly ropey in the blacker moments but otherwise it did look really good. A good Netflix Super HD stream, on the other hand, would definitely look better but that is still nowhere near a match for what a Blu-ray can look like on the 65FTE242S-T. This is definitely a TV for disc lovers over streaming viewers, so take that knowledge with you during the decision process.

Good job all I watch is 1080p Bluray from my HTPC then ;). Fact is if I can calibrate this OK (again from HTPC, no TV controls required) the panel itself is more than capable. I'll post the results later and see how it does. At the end of the day you can't buy Plasmas anymore and I can't afford OLED, LCD performance is really not that varied so what's the point spending mega bucks for marginal (if that) improvements.
