Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

I think my only regret with my 55C9 OLED is that it's not a 65C9 :p

(Though maybe if i had the 65, i'd wish I had the 77...)

77. Yeah... No! Would take up half the wall!

I'm guessing as this is luckily going up in a plasterboard wall but with an external wall behind it I'll need some long bolts to drill into the block work behind?

I sit quite close to my 65 inch S95B (within 3m) and I would definitely consider going even bigger.

It's great for immersion in games/films.

Other half didn't like it at first but now thinks a 55 inch TV is small. You get used to it very quickly.

I will have this with the gf. It's not the money.. But she may not be able to handle 65 inches! :o

I sit just over 2m from a 55" and I don't feel the need for anything bigger. Especially on 16:9 full screen content.

If the content is good it immerses me anyway, a bigger screen wouldn't make much difference.

And with a bigger screen at close distance, you notice more imperfections so the content needs to be excellent quality.

Just some thoughts. I will go 65" next time as its a want more than a need. I went from 46 to 55 and it was a substantial jump in it self.

Edit. Also sound is a major player for me these days. Adding a quality sub made watching movies 10x better. A quality sound system makes the home theater experience.

You need 4x 18 inch subs running at 2000w each like I have (except I won’t show anyone) - anything else is rubbish

Wait no sorry that’s the hornetstinger coming out in me

Watching films is about experience, and you have more than one sensory organ working at the same time.

Therefore, you’re 100% right in that having a decent sound system (I.e. it doesn’t need to be amazing) can transform your experience.

I went from a really nice bowers and Wilkins 2.1 system to a Sonos-based 5.2.2 system and as an experience, the Sonos is better. It also cost me less money!

For me, a 65 inch is the minimum I’d have now. I could easily go 77 in my front room

Issue with immersion is with movies, you get large borders. So you think a xx inch TV is big enough (as you put on Toy Story or any full screen animation) but put on LOTR in 2:35 and that 55" is no longer as big as you thought

50" Kuro for me was ok with Toy Story but with 2:35 lost several inches, and I think some older movies (and non anamorphic DVD) even had larger borders

@Rilot comes in for the cull.

Back to business now, how is it to have the CRV back?

As you can now upgrade the ICE with dual boot mounted subs to get real bass :D

Ah man, what comedy did I miss.

Regarding 55 vs 65", what content do you watch @413x?

We sit ~3m from our 65", it was too big at first but you soon get used to it (what I told my mrs...), wouldn't go back to 55" now.

But content does matter, as a 65" set will show up poor bitrate content (I'm looking at you Sky) much more than a 55" set if you are close, especially if it's a proper set like OLED. If you spend a lot of time watching SD and HD rather than BD rips or proper 4K content with decent bitrate, you may find the 65" a worse overall experience.

Once you factor in ratio 55" is quite small as you lose several inches

Upgraded my Reisong A12 this weekend. First time doing any soldering and failed to properly ground a capacitor first go - fried a couple of resistors but all good now and sounding sweet. A really big improvement over stock.

What mods did you make to the A12? I bought one a while back and didn't get on with it at all but I have heard they can sound good with a few mods.

I did the Skunkie mods (plus upgraded the coupling caps at the same time). To be honest I liked it out the box but the mods have hugely improved bass and detail. Sounds much better at all volumes.

Pretty straightforward despite my initial ballsup, I can definitely recommend doing them. You're supposed to change the rectifier tube to a gz34 at the same time but it's running well on the stock 5z4p while I wait for mine to turn up.

Videos are on YouTube to follow.

Cost £33 in parts from mouser (not including the rectifier and a £20 soldering kit from Amazon).

Stephe at Skunkie has done a lot of good videos on tube amps.

Other options for ordering stuff:
* Farnell UK - and select the local dispatch on the menu (it means the parts don't come from the US)
* Digikey UK - you can IIRC select local stock too (again it means you don't get the US stock surcharge)
* modulus - a tube amp (mainly for guitar) specialist in the UK
* tubetown - a tube and amplifier specialist in germany - often their prices are better than the UK specialists even when including VAT and delivery! IIRC there's a minimum of £160.
* Watford Valves - big big UK stockist for valves (annoyingly doesn't offer PayPal) but has a massive range across many difficult to find tube types.
* Hotrox - a UK instrument/amp stockist with good selection of tubes - a bit more expensive that the others

Great to see your key working well. I'm just about to put an order in for a guitar tube amp (2W pentode output with a Marshall JCM800 front end).

I also have a hybrid circlotron tube amp for headphones using some lovely 12BH7A-STRs although I need to finish it!

Sorry to be off topic but I really like your flooring. What is it? I feel that'd look perfect in my kitchen & utility!
