Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Thankyou.

Well, parts of the system are 13 years old and some are quite new. I started it all off back in 1994.

Naim CD5 (ex dem) bought in 2004 cost £1000
Naim HiCap (ex dem) bought in 2004 cost £500
Naim 92 pre bought new in 1994 cost £400
Naim FlatCap bought new in 1994 cost £300
Naim 90.3 bought new in 1994 cost £400
Naim NACA5 speaker cable bought new in 2004 cost £80
Rega R5 bought new in 2005 cost £600

Total £3280

All the components that I got in 1994 have all been returned to Naim Audio for full service about 2 years ago therefore having brand new Caps. The service of the components make a massive difference in performance too.

How much would some of that set you back nowadays?

Well if you add all those up together with all new prices it would cost £4030. But Naim have changed a lot of their components now. They look and sound different to the olive range I have. You may be able to notice my CD player is the new style kit. You can get a lower spec Naim system brand new for around £2000 but not sure if that would have the seperate power supplies for that price.

In 2005 I was invited to the Naim Audio factory for a tour and a listen in the demo room. I am still walking along with my jaw dragging on the floor. They setup a system which was about £30,000 good grief it was awesome !

You can get more info if you visit the Naim audio website, the forums there are very good and there are some sytems there that make mine look pants :D

Haha, looks very, very nice.

Nothing affordable then? :D.

For the best value for money buying ex dem or second hand is quite popular with Naim stuff and any other expensive HiFi too. There are some excellent bargins out there. Buying new does hurt the bank balance a bit. :D

Exactly! Best advice is 2nd hand for quality gear... my Cyrus system cost me £1700 all in and yet would have cost around £3000 brand new. :)

^ Similar to the idea we're thinking of.

How did you hide the wires & where'd you get the tubing for the cables from the TV?

Here's my modest set up:

The speaker side of things were based around my old recording studio speakers, but the missus didn't want huge speakers as rears on the window sill so we had to come to a comprimise. Pics below on the link

http://drive.123-reg.co.uk/17691307

Where to start.. Specs I guess:

TV: Sony Bravia 40" S2530
AV Reciever: Sony STR-DA1200ES
DVD Player: Onn HDMI upscaler
Centre: Paradigm CC-350
Fronts: Spirit Absolute 2's
Rears: Eltax Waves
Sub: REL Strata II

All connected digitally on HDMI, apart from the Wii on Component. :)

Soundwise, it took a while to balance it all up, since the fronts are very toppy and crisp compared to the centre, which sounded a touch flat in comparison - not to mention far less sensitive. Still, it's all sorted now, but I don't think the neighbours like it one bit.. Might have something to do with the REL... ;)

The wires are inside D-line trunking around the bottom of the skirting boards and up to the TV. Its good stuff and works well. Was a tight squeeze with the wires up to the TV.

nice seperates, not too keen on the floorstanders though.

They are different I have to admit, but they sound awesome with my Naim system. I listened to a few speakers before buying these from Quad, ATC, Naim and PMC and nothing came close. They sound super tight and have an excellent top end which is very open. :)

Update

Added a few bits 'n' bobs and I am almost finished!

List o stuff!

Denon 3802
Aegis EVO 5.1 System
PS3
XBOX 360
Wii
SKYHD

I only got the SKYHD box because we had an internal email at work offering HD fitted for £99 as we do a lot of work for them.

All thats left to do is some cabling from my PC so I can watch 1080p files and get 5.1 sound from them from the other side of the room seeing as I have had a move around.

Only wanted to spend £300 ish for surround, kinda got carried away but the new system with sub is astonishing.

May as well post my ageing setup, problably could do with an upgrade but it still sounds good enough for me.

* Denon AVR1602 Reciever connected to my PC with QED Qunex SR75 Refrence coaxial digital cable.
* Arcam CD62 with Ixos 1002 Gamma
* Aiwa ADF450 tape deck With cheapo freebie red and whites!
* Pioneer Digibox with profigold interconects and composite cables.
* Pro-ject Debut turntable with a Pro-ject "The Phono Box" preamp using QED Qnect 1

* KEF Cresta 1 rears Bi-Wired with cheapo gale XL105
* B&W ASW500 12" Active Sub wired with Ixos 1081
