Sweet setup mate

Got the Quads myself, sound awesome dont they ;)

They are brilliant! There were quite a few choices for the £500 mark but I am so glad I went for these. I think black would have matched the rest of my stuff nicely but I got a 5 year warranty in the bundle for no extra, so couldnt really say no. Just watched Cloverfield with them yesterday... OMG the sound was superb, so much bass for such a small system.

The pictures on websites really dont do them justice, I had to look around to find them in the Cherry finish because I thought the Silver finish looked a little tacky but yours look the bomb!

Any shots of the sub in silver? ;)

I had the option of silver, cherry or rosewood at the time and cherry were definatly my second option. The finish on all of them is superb, and the little white gloves are a nice touch. It was impossible trying to find stands for them, these should be lower as they have a mounting bracket specifically for these speakers, but the brackets require two mounting holes where as mine only have one. How many does yours have? Il get some pics of the sub tomorrow for you, I really like the look of the sub. I was worried about having a sub with the speaker covering material on it as my kittens would rip it to shreds, but everything for this is underneath and out of reachof their grubby little claws. Thankfully though once they heard the explosion scenes from "I am Legend" they treat it with fear rather than curiosity. I swear my back still hurts from lifting it though!

I think the silver works very well with your setup actually.

I'm not a pro on this, but wouldn't it be better to separate your fronts a bit more? Seems like you have the space either side

Yeah I am still in the process of moving things around to get the right sound, they are 1.8m apart atm. I think Quad recommend 1.5+, but I will be moving them outwards. The rears are a good 2.5 apart and I have already used the SPL meter to set the levels. Now I have a little time on my hands I will try to fine tune things further

Yeah mine have only got the one mounting hole as well, the supposed correct model with the 2 mounting holes seem rarer than hens teeth to actually get hold of.

How sturdy are your speakers on those stands? I was going to go with stands myself but was worried that they'd get knocked and subsequently break so decided to go the wall mounted bracket route.

I know my pics are no where near the standard of yours (stupid iPhone camera) but you can see pics of my speakers HERE

I was gutted when I noticed they wouldn't fit on the intended bracket! The stands are apollo sat-1's the advertising shots for the quads use them but mine dont fit. They are very stable though, even with the thin stand the weight of the base is more than enough. Considering the price I wouldnt have bought them if I knew about the mounting.

Even with the iPhone pics they look beautiful, silver looks very bland in comparison as you dont get any wooden grain, the sub especially suffers compared to yours.

Have to say I also really like the blue light on your Sammy TV, I'm a sucker for little things like that :p

Also is that Cloverfield on BlueRay? Yet another person that has it! Why can't I find it on any of the usual suspects online? Gonna have to go proper shopping tomorrow to pick up a copy.

I like the little light too, I thought it would be annoying when watching a movie but havent noticed it. Not keeping it for much longer as I am just about ready to stump up the courage and order the new Pio Kuro.

Yeah its Cloverfield on bluray, I imported it from movietyme. It was next day delivery which was great, althought I dont know how they managed that.

Thats my little setup ...

Its changed a little since this photo, the speaker controller has gone and a third amplifier has arrived - along with the triamp crossovers for my B&Ws :) Was bidding on a pair of ATC SCM-50s last week, only could scrape £700 spare though, they went for £770 *gutted*.

Sweet. What is it all? It that the 42-PX80?
Are the wall mounted speakers like front-rears?

Its the 42-PX70 mate. the small speakers are front are part of the 5.1 setup I use for the movies, I the other 2 are out of shot on those pics behind me.

I made the decision a while ago to split my setup, I used to have a yamaha DSP800 hooked up to the stereo amp, with the stereo powering the front 2 chanels and using the GS10s, the yamaha pwering a centre and the rears. It was a pain, every time I watched a film I would have switch on both amps and faff to get the levels right, it also sounded quite disjointed with the different speakers. so I went shoppping :D

For movies I have

  • Yamaha AX-761 amp
  • KEF KHT3005 eggs (minus sub)
  • Mission MA6S active sub
  • PS3 & 360

For Music

  • Roksan Kandy Mk III amp
  • Marantz cd63 ki sig cd player (modded with superclock 2)
  • Monitor Audio GS10 on actama stands

Best of both worlds, and nice and easy to live with, the KEFs are suppringly good for their size and the system integrates seemlessly now, and the GS10 only come out to play when I listen to music.

we need to get a new amp our current one is great for movies... not so great for music.
