Thinking about upgrading to a new one soon - can't decide wether to go for the M1730 or a Rock?
M1730 is the way to go but the m1710 still holds its ground with less weight, size, better speakers and reasonable battery life.
The 1730 (with the gtx's) will decimate the 1710 in games/rendering though, has a built in mic/webcam/5.1, g15 screen and supports two hdd's in raid.
Hasnt the latter gone into administration?

Indeed they have.

I must admit that I am still more than happy with the M1710, but it's just that the M1730 looks newer and shinier and the grass is greener :p also the M1710 is starting to show it's age with gfx in some games. I'm really frustrated as I got half way through Crysis and it's now running like a slideshow :(

I really like the look of that one however you can't beat the boy racer stripe on mine. :D:p

BTW, does your screen have **** viewing angles?

I seen the dell street design and although it is nice I went for the chill design as the missus uses it as well and the street design was too boyish.

I am however planning on getting a Dell XPS M1530 soon

Your second quest has starred out a word :S not sure what you’re asking

Compaq Armada: Pentium 2 366mhz, 256mb RAM.

40quid_lappy.jpg

Bought it for £40 completely dead. Someone has tried to open it using a screwdriver instead of the correct tool and had mashed the screws so I drilled out the screws re-soldered where the power connector connects to the board and changed the cmos battery. Viola! working laptop. Just upgraded the RAM to 256mb (for free).

...Yes it is now held together by green electrical tape and no there is no CDROM drive or battery (neither works). The best feature is that there is no external power brick you just plug the kettle lead straight into the back. :D

EDIT: Almost forgot. When using a PCMCIA card the cpu fan does not spin so it's totally silent. I've left it on for over 12 hours without it melting so I guess this is a fault that I like :)

I'm quite a fan of the D830, hadn't seen one until a friends boss was having spyware/virus issues a couple weeks ago.

Felt quite solid, and (for me) was more comfortable to use than the D6*0.
Screen was nice also, good level of brightness and viewing angle was quite generous. :)

I'm glad this thread has seen a revivial.
How much was that HP Blackdragon?
