Post your mobile phone desktop!

I'm having a Play with 'Apex Launcher' at the mo, Dunno how to Root my Arc (ICS v4.0.4) so I can't do some things it says I can! (Adding Widges from the Drawer etc..), but I like it so far!! (I'm an old Gingerbread/Go-Ex lover!!)...

Calendar is a Mixture of Mine and The Wife's so we each know what the other is doing!! :D )

Do you think nova is better than apex overall mrk or do you prefer it just for the app drawer folders?

What about RAM usage, how much does nova use on your GS 3? Apex for me uses about 30MB (3 homescreens, 7 widgets, tablet transition effect for homescreens and card stack effect for app drawer along with a swipe up gesture on the homescreen to launch qbright and the home button to bring me back to the homescreen if I am not on it and if I am to launch a preview of the homescreens instead then)

I love apex for everything, but do miss the app drawer folders and go calendar widget from go launcher :(

Could you post a screenshot of your app drawer please? :p

It uses 54MB of RAM and I have 108MB free currently of 780MB usable by the OS itself, I assume the remainder of the 1GB is used by the hardware itself. No idea what GoLauncher etc used as I never bothered to check them as Android 4 is as good as Win7 where memory management is concerned. Although I don't know about SenseUI as HTC has custom memory mapping... :p

I find Nova better by a swift amount yeah. Both it and Apex are fast and smooth but I prefer the vast amount of extra options in Nova and folder management is more logical too as are the Prime features nicer.

I don't miss GoLauncher's folders any more as Nova Prime does it all the same and then goes beyond as well. You have ap drawer folder and tabs now if you have Nova Prime purchased.

There are loads more options to customise too, most are gesture based.

On a similar subject...

What if (like me) your a tight git and only have 'Free' apps on your phone!..

Which is better??... Apex (Free) or Nova (Free) :)

Dunno, I bought both from day one :p My Market account is full of bought yet uninstalled apps :p

Yeah was just curious as to if it was a memory hogger (as some launchers can use up to 100MB of RAM ), but that isn't bad at all!

Go launcher for me used about 55-60MB (I like to know this info :o :p), so pretty much the same as nova.

It's not like any device today has a shortage of RAM and as you said android is great for memory management, so won't be much of an issue if it did use a fair bit more RAM anyway :p :D

Currently this is my RAM usage:

As you said the rest is probably being used by hardware and then for HTC devices some will be allocated for sense only :p

The speed and smoothness I am not too bothered about as go, apex even sense all feel the same to me, super quick/instant and smooth.

Sounds all good then, may have to switch and see how things go, not too bothered about gestures though as I only use like 2 on apex currently :p

Could you just upload a SS of your app drawer before I purchase nova please? :p

other than folders what extra features does Nova have over Apex?

Under Prime, there are additional options, more gestures among other bits. Also you get unread counters, drawer groups and folders (separate), dock can be set as an overlay, dialogues can hover over the dock, you can hide both dock and notification bar via gestures, various configs for widget scaling and overlaying on top of other widgets, not just one option to place over like some launchers. You also get 2 finger gestures, tap gestures and so on.

Apex has some of these already but I find them better on Nova, especially where the app drawer is concerned.

Thanks :)

Looks pretty good! Probably prefer go's overall style more though. IIRC the actual folder style can be changed too, can't it? Option of ICS circle or square folder as well as the way icons are sorted when the folder is not opened etc.

Also are you using the latest beta version or just the stable version of prime?

I haven't tried the beta yet, that's a task for later on ;p

You can customise the folder background and icon style as well yeah. There are also icon themes you can download.

Ok, will just use the stable version for now as well then and let you be the guinea pig for testing :p and depending on the outcome I may give it a shot as well! :p :D

Sounds great! Thanks :)

Icon themes.............pfft! :p

I don't why I don't just buy Nova and see the differences for myself - cheers mrk.

Well got nova and only had a quick play with it but personally still prefer apex overall.

Firstly as expected speed and smoothness pretty much the same for me

This put me off now, the icons and widgets all looked weird with nova compared to go and apex, the dock icons look a wee bit squashed together and a bit smaller along with the snowstorm weather widget main text being too small and leaving a big gap between the next few days weather. Tried changing all the settings, the grid back to 4x4 etc. but nothing worked, apex just "sits nicer", maybe I am missing a setting?

Nova does seem to have a lot more gesture stuff and a few additional settings especially for the app drawer and overall just a nicer feel and look to it than apex, guess you could say more polished.

Loved having the app drawer folders back, however, still not a patch on the look/style of go's app drawer/folders IMO, wasn't keen on how the app folder looks when opened.

Will stick with apex for now I think, and see what the next update brings and if not much then I'll give nova another go.

If HTC had some better way of implementing the menu button, I would still be using go launcher without a doubt! :p
