I don't understand why on Windows Phone, the signal strength in the menu bar disappears? What's the reason for that? :confused:

When I had a WP I found that annoying. You can swipe down to reveal it but yes I would prefer to see it all the time.

Not sure - but you could make it invisible on the desktop

Good video Andy, and as someone thinking of moving to windows phone you highlighted some things that would annoy me. I would be interested to see one for 8.1 though, as it looks like that has addressed a few of the issues like wifi toggles and battery meters etc.

Much prefer the three column screen, looking forward to 8.1, hate notification centres and always disable everything, but the 5 quick access things will be very nice. And bring core features bang upto date with ios and android.

Each to their own(it's also pixilated due to compression rather than what it actually looks like), I would rather have such info at a glance, than a pretty wallpaper that does nothing. Well in 8.1 you will be able to have both. With the see though parallax thing.

Would hate 95% of the set ups on here. Even when I was on android had widgets everywhere, which never matched styles. What's the point in a blank screen with no info. You mean I actually have to press something to find out info.

I think the problem is very rarely is a WP based screen shot going to look good, they are living screens, always flipping about and very animated, even the way the Cortana tile ring glows and moves ( as well as giving updates in the tile to your selected subjects), its never going to look right as a static picture.

From that screenshot, there doesn't actually appear to be that much information on there though? Just lots of icons for apps?

You've got the number of missed calls (I'm guessing that's what the "3" on the phone icon is), weather for 5 days, and a calendar for three days which doesn't actually tell you what the events are, simply the times. Then one news headline.

That's no more information than on a standard android screen, which does it while looking far better.

I agree with you entirely about having lots of information there is nice, but there just isn't much there in that screen.
