Haven't done this in a very long time! My HTC One M8 is still going strong with an 4.4 version of ParanoidAndroid (never really got on with 5, no idea what version we're on these days)

Is hiding your provider a marshmallow thing? I thought it might be possible with nova launcher on lollipop but it seems I can only hide the entire notification area which I don't want.

Mine only shows on the lockscreen. It doesn't appear in the notification area at all when unlocked, and I'm on stock (and not rooted).

It's a ROM thing, in stock Google Android it's only there on the lockscreen. OEMs like Motorola shows it all the time but I think there's an option to turn it off.
