** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

Great review from TFTCentral, it has calmed my nerves a bit.

I think it would be a bit early for them to fix the banding issue before next weeks release but if it is a firmware update that we the end user can do then I can live with it for the time being.

Back to excited! Roll on next Friday!

TFT review was surprisingly better than i expected given the track record ive seen posted about Acer. Looks a very nice monitor, but very expensive :)

Just hoping it's not been cherry-picked tbh, I wouldn't put it past them!! :p

I want it to be good because it's on my list for a Gsync monitor, but VA has spoiled me a bit in regards to glow etc :(

I may just have to bide my time...

So a German chap just said he spoke with Acer and they told him this:

Hey guys, i Talked to german acer support and they said to me that they work on firmware update but i cant update it myself. I need to register it for repair if i wish. But i think that will be faster than the worldwide release happens.

I wouldn't take it as gospel since it's more than possible that customer support aren't 100% on it, but I'd like to hear how that compares to what they're saying to TFTCentral.

If the unit cannot be firmware updated / flashed by the end user then with the 2 Years On Site Warranty that you get with it will this mean sending engineers out to customers houses to perform? Expensive!

Might be jumping the gun a bit here, should really see what Acer come back with their official announcement. ;)

I would get your warranty info checked because Acer dont do on site as standard.

http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/standard-warranty

If you notice the OCUK product pages it just says Warranty : 2yr

Also the firmware update on Benq Monitor I had required a certain setup of linux, a VGA cable, a laptop and cross all extremities. Its not very straight forward but rewarding when you manage to not brick your monitor.

Acer Customer Support are never 50% on it under normal circumstances !

Quoting Gibbo from the ROG thread (but regarding this monitor)

Acer have already fixed this, Badass also has confirmed to me they fixed it with a firmware update and all UK stock will have this update pre-applied from factory. :)

Just gotta wait to see if there's any chance of a self fix, if not I'll put money down for one.

looking good so will ocuk have these on the 25th ?

Be interested to know as well as the eta has changed a number of times.

I have one pre-ordered and was very tempted to cancel so thank god for tft's review it has certainly made me think again and at least wait to go hands on with the monitor myself :). Great review.

Hang on that's not what I said :) I said Acer were planning to fix it with a firmware update but I'm waiting on details of when and how. I don't know for sure yet whether shipped stock will feature this from the factory or not but I would hope so. That's not confirmed yet. I'm still waiting on info from Acer

Crikey that's a bit worrying if they would go ahead and ship with the fault. I hope OCUK find out, because otherwise they're just gonna get them returned...

More often than not, "onsite warranty" on monitors just means they courier you a replacement and pick up the faulty one, they never send an actual engineer to your house

Acer dont do that. Its not onsite warranty as standard. Its return to base. Fact. They arrange (actually you have to do it yourself) for UPS to come and collect. The monitor then goes to a third party in Manchester for them to try and repair it. You then have to continually chase them for updates. You then get your monitor back and its 50/50 whether its replaced. if not then do the whole thing again. They do not send you a replacement first.

The X270HU swap out was a one off they agreed to do for OCUK customers because of the many complaints.
