** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

This seems to be the colour issue:

Have they done something to the panel to get it up to 100hz?

Well they've certainly done something to the panel, or more to the monitor itself. As the panel is only 60Hz and all other models using it can't be effectively overclocked to anywhere near 100Hz without various issues. I suspect they may have reduced the colour depth for the blue channel to allow it to actually work at all at 100Hz. But I'm not sure, I'll wait for TFT Central to see what they notice and see whether this is a universal issue with this model.

This blue issue seems to be affecting every monitor so far? Certainly the majority anyway, not that there's too many out there so too early to say. Surely this is fixable?? Talk about epic fail otherwise, the monitor becomes a dud overnight!

Key word = potentially.
Read the OC.net forums. Loads of problems. I think they're on 1/10 of people who are happy. Coil whine, failure to hit 100Hz, BLB... typical first run problems from Acer

Well I haven't bought it, but it's straight off the production line and unopened (or at least all previous new releases from Acer I've reviewed have been)

Saw on Twitter you have the X34 now... intrigued to know if yours suffers from the blue banding issue that it seems every monitor currently in the wild (sold by a lone retailer in Germany) is suffering with? I've not seen one that doesn't have this error so far, and the speculation is that it's just a bad batch being sold when they shouldn't have been. As I assume yours came direct from Acer, yours hopefully shouldn't suffer the same fate!

Refund absolutely.

I think this must be a defective batch. Only one seller had them, which they've now taken down off their site, with everyone with the EXACT same issue.

On the positive side, GSYNC seems to work very well, and I have very, very minimal back light bleed, which is nice.

Well no one can say it's a surprise with Acer... they shouldn't be allowed to sell monitors IMO, utterly disgraceful.

+1

How people don't learn from previous runs I do not know. The 27" 2560x 144Hz HU thingy was a failure for ages. Rainforest reviews still say there are problems

There is a conspiracy theory that that seller bought a whole load of defective models or indeed failed to return defective models after they were told in a hope to blag their customers... just a theory of course

It definitely seems odd. I know ACER are known for bad QC, but this feels different somehow. Like there's something fundamentally broken with the monitors, and it's a 100% failure rate.

(now OCUK's ETA is 25th Sept?)

Well that's another monitor off my list, depressing state of affairs, don't manufacturers realise the kind of damage they are doing to consumer confidence by turning out **** :(

I don't think it does have a big impact on confidence unless we are personally affected. Even people reading the problems on the forums will still buy in the hope they get a good one.
