** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

As an early adopter reading these forums I was a little relieved about the pushed back release date which would give Acer a chance to possibly fix the monitors that they were pushing now (from the 1 German retailer). Now the release date has been moved to next week I am a little nervous. I will still receive and do testing on it but I am under the illusion that although the coil whine issues and BLB might not be there, the blue colour banding issue will most likely be there.

Also seen the price has gone up? Now I am glad they took the money in August.

I was waiting till TFTCentrals review but I am now not sure if they will have it out before this is now released on the 25th.

Lets hope for the best...

just had a conversation with Acer. watch this space for an update on fix for the colour banding issue very shortly....

I'd be interested to know exactly how it happened... i.e if it was just an early batch that got missed somehow, and the rest of the monitors coming off the production line (I assume the majority are yet to be finished anyway), will be fixed before being shipped worldwide. Unless it is something simple like a firmware fix that the end user can apply themselves, this is going to be a HUGELY expensive mistake for them to rectify. Even then, it may put a lot of people off... hardly a good start.

waiting for full info. will let you know. only one retailer even has stock i believe in Germany, so an early batch there with problems is obviously a pain. but if it's caught before all the UK stock and worldwide stock is out there, it's not a massive problem. at least for us in the UK we should be safe :)

They need to fix this issue asap or it'll kill the buzz with this monitor (Asus have priced themselves out of a comparison imo)

if it's fixed before it's available over here it shouldn't be a problem. we've seen similar things in the past - eg early stock of the Asus MG279Q with frame skipping bug, most early FreeSync screens not working with overdrive before a firmware update

well i spoke to Acer about 10 mins after i'd published the review (entirely coincidentally) and they were getting me a statement asap so shouldn't be long

Thanks a lot. I eagerly anticipate that!

On side note, would you think that the 95hz thing I have is something I should look to return it because of? I don't even know if there's any perceptible difference, but I don't know if it's a sign I have a weaker panel etc.

i don't think it would be worth it at 95Hz. thats still a massive improvement and barely any difference to 100Hz anyway. might be related to your graphics card perhaps but i wouldn't worry about "only" getting 95Hz personally :) if you can update firmware yourself you should be fine
