Power to Mick Lynch

?? Is what he said wrong

No, just the Twitter posts the video was quoted from made me laugh.

I already said some of the media's questions were stupid, especially regarding the Marxist question, but obviously the media are going to give him a hard time; they give everyone a hard time incase you didn't realise.

Just some office bods with a chip on their shoulders :D

The chip on my shoulder is that I used to actually use the trains, the service is terrible and the people who work on the trains don't seem to understand they work in the service industry.

Ah so they're not subservient and don't cowtow enough.

Personally most of the rail staff I've encountered have been helpful, pleasant and polite, but I have noticed the the staff in the busy stations at peak times are for some reason more likely than not in a bit of a hurry so can be a bit brusque almost as if they were trying to rush to do the next task/deal with the next customer asking for the one hundredth time that hour "am I on platform 12" whilst standing under the platform 12 sign.

One chick at Waterloo called me a bender once when I insisted on going through the barrier with my roll-on suitcase. (n.b. Doobedoo, it was a £750 Briggs & Riley)

Yeah, it's called working in the service industry, customer service in the UK is generally poor, but it's particularly bad when you have the level of entitlement shown by people who work for the train lines. They just aren't held to any standards of customer service. Trains late? Trains cancelled? Overcrowded? Can't get home? No one cares, that's your problem mate.

I've commuted on trains for 25+ years and disagree, however I approach the situation with the knowledge that the staff have likely been harrassed by a stream oif aholes having a go at them for something that has nothing to do with them.

The rubbish the ticket folk had to put up with chucking people out of 1st class is a prime example.

Are you the guy who shouts at the McDonalds workers when the ice cream machine is broken, too?

No, McDonald's isn't subsidised and running an essential service. I don't shout at train workers either.

I mean, I'm saying the train service is poorly run, I'm not saying staff should be abused.

Sorry, also you think the trains in the UK are run well? Have you been on trains in other countries similar to the UK?

Your only really seeing the framed, biased media sound bites rather than the actual negotiations behind closed doors. He’s holding his own in that space.

It sounds like the TOCs are holding their own as well, hence negotiations have broken down and we're now at a stalemate.

I wonder if the barristers had this level of opposition to secure their 15% pay rises?
Highly skilled workers versus generic wage workers - not exactly a fair comparison.

Cleaners will soon find themselves outsourced; surprised they haven't already. Nothing special about picking up litter on a train versus anywhere else.

I just clicked on the trending hashtag and that happened to be the first twitter post of 1000s so I linked to it. Blame twitter for putting it first in my feed.

That needs to be fixed! I nominate a megalomaniac billionaire to make that place free from such news sources.

We have already given everybody at our place between 8 and 14%. We got in early in January to try and stop people leaving for more money

Forgot to ask yesterday, has your company seen at least a 14% increase in revenue? Or are they making spending cuts in other places / reducing dividend payments etc. If not, are you concerned about job security?

As I can see in a few years time if companies haven't managed to increase revenue then we'll start to see redundancies as companies struggle to afford the wage bill.

It does when the reasons been given for not giving a wage rise closer to inflation is that they dont want to stoke the economy/inflation and we are all in this together (unless you aren't like MP's or Barristers in which case you can have inflation busting payrises)

Are teachers and nurses highly skilled? Where are their 15% pay rises? All of which offer a greater benefit to society.

Some need it more.

How exactly are you expecting a train station employee on £30k a year to fix the trains being late, cancelled or being overcrowded ?
