Power to weight ratio of your car?

I thought the 911 would be far higher up the ranks than that Gibbo. Is it N/A?

Only 27hp/tonne more than my piddly Elise :o

depends what sort of distance.

If your talking about a standing mile or more, its all about power.

The cars that top vmax at brunters are always the ones with BIG hp.

I know this so let me explain:-

EVO X - 410BHP / 380Lb/ft / 1540kg (Manufacturers claimed weight) - 266BHP per tonne

911 C2S - 360BHP / 295Lb/Ft / 1456kg (True weight with fuel etc, manufacturer claims 1390kg) - 247BHP per tonne. (259BHP is use manufacturers claimed weight).


On a certain private airfield by a landmark the EVO was hitting circa 118-119mph GPS wheras the less powerful 911 is hitting 126-128mph GPS.

So the less powerful has the upperhand. The reason for this is more down to gearing and aero-dynamics.

The 911 is the quicker and sharper car, though the EVO X due to its turbo and very short gearing did have more aggressive mid-range, but the 911 is better at low revs and in the upper power band. :)

Also factor in big transmission losses on the evo compared to the 911 and I'd guess the power actually put down to the road at higher speeds to be very close, if not in favour of the 911.

I've heard this argument put forward a few times but it still remains largely a redundant / useless fact. Back in the real world (back roads, cheeky blasts to 120ish,slip roads), or round racetracks, the lower weight, high power car will always be quicker. I can almost never think of a situation where you'd race another car at speeds over 140 apart from vmax, or a trip to Germany.

Haha, funny how low down on that list I am with my Spitfire.

I couldn't squeeze anymore horsepower out of it if I tried - short of extensive head and engine work, larger carburettors, GT manifold, different exhaust system and weight reduction! Still, it is only a 1.3 in there after all.

Custom map, larger injectors, 4-1 manifold, de cat, back box, larger inter cooler and a TRD airbox.

I've also taken quite a bit of weight out of the car, lighter wheels and the whole exhaust system is so much lighter.

I could get a better ratio if i swapped the show wheels for some nice 13" alloys but i like it as it is and seems plenty powerfull for me.
 
Some properly dubious figures in that list, I'm thinking of the Leon Cupra R and that Saab 900 mostly, presuming hugely optimistic guesstimate or super-optimistic dyno printouts involved in those?

They make mine seem positively slow either way.

now come on - 'kit cars' arn't cars in the same sense of the word of everything else. It can't take you to do a big shop, cant keep you and your passenger warm and dry, can't let you relax and listen to the radio on the motoraway, can't leave it on the street you need a garage or a driveway.

It's a hybrid, a bike with stabilizers :p
