Power to weight ratio of your car?

I've heard this argument put forward a few times but it still remains largely a redundant / useless fact. Back in the real world (back roads, cheeky blasts to 120ish,slip roads), or round racetracks, the lower weight, high power car will always be quicker.

I'm not really sure that is the case. The power to weight ratio is just one small part of a huge amount of vehicle and enviromental variables. Unless of course you are comparing identical vehicles bar their weight and power, in which case, ignore. A bhp/tonne list is not a list of fastest to slowest.

Exactly...what? Is it against the law to throw money at a car to make it go faster than yours?

I think he means the obscene amount of money for an extra 75bhp.

Yes it sounded very nice, yes it went like stink, but £4-5K for it, i'm not so sure. He since sold up and bought a 645i :p

147.45 Bhp/tonne at the moment which isnt great, but I'm 22 with 4NCB so when i get 5 years I'm looking at something a fair bit quicker lol

Stock internals, Stock turbo? WTF was the £4-5k? spent on then?

I'd hazard a guess, assuming he's right, that the turbo housing is stock but internals changed, intercooler, exhaust, mapping, fuel pump, fpr, injectors (maybe).

He may have done other things like suspension and brakes which are not directly related to power (but a good idea none the less).

Custom map, larger injectors, 4-1 manifold, de cat, back box, larger inter cooler and a TRD airbox.

I've also taken quite a bit of weight out of the car, lighter wheels and the whole exhaust system is so much lighter.

Neil.

Exige is about 980kg stock. So minus 5kg per wheel, and minus about 20kg for the 2bular manifold, cat and silencer. That equals 940kg.

271 / 0.94 = 288bhp/tonne ?

Yes, it depends greatly on what he deems internals....

That kind of figure - just on the engine - struck me as very very high for what seems not that much more power.

Brings back memories of Turbosystems & Sierra Cosworths, the price re power hike seems very low, especially given what similar money did to a Sierrra RSC. :)

My trucks figure is fully freighted at its Max Gross weight (44t), just the Cab (Tractor) part weighs just shy of 7.5tons. - 58BHP/ton ish I think?

Thus, it'll still beat NathWraith's VW Polo 1.2 @50BHP....! :p - Fancy a race upto my speed limiter (55mph) mate?

In therory,I think the Scania would win??? ;) :D

Reminds me of when my brother had his Punto. Got totally owned by a truck from a standing start, I had not laughed so much for a long time.

Probably would be a close one :p

The Polo is a truely slow car.
