Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

I'm in the market for a garden trimmer, and it's an opportune time to get into a decent quality cordless ecosystem as I'm in the process of buying a house which needs a lot of work. I've got a few corded power tools but most of the time these are a faff. I've been looking at both Dewalt and Makita so far, but aware the battery ecosystem is really what you buy into and then reuse across tools ideally.

Dewalt dcm561p1
Makita DUR192LZ

Any other recommendations or advice? I'm not used to a lock in type approach, but kind of looking forward to the world it opens up

i got into the dewalt ecosystem due to a cracking deal on a combo drill pack with 2 x 4mah batteries. picked up the ryobi One+ strimmer and an adapter from amazon that lets the dewalt batteries fit the ryobi tools. will pick up bare tools as and when i need them but for tools that will get limited use i'm quite happy buying the usually cheaper ryobi one+ gear

Do you need gardening tools also? I believe makita has a better selection of gardening gear

Dewalt has a better/improved battery tech (e.g. If you want the smaller form factor 2Ah batteries).

Ive had/got most of the makita gear but would appreciate some of the nicer batteries.

Remember you can get adaptors too. I have a couple ryobi tools - pole hedge trimmer and reciprocating saw as they were cheaper. The ryobi gear definetly feels "Fisher price" compared to makita though!

The makita garden tools - hedge trimmer and mower I have feel really good quality.

You can see I have a few.. (the dewalt boxes were on offer and I don't have a garage :D. Hoping it will mean I can be more organised when my house renovation is more finished.)

Some deals come through on screwfix which do you consider best?

(brushed unfortunately)

Or should I still just target a Dewalt DCD796 plus 2x 2AH batteries for the circa £120 mark?

just ordered a Ryobi R18AG7-0 125mm cordless grinder and now wondering if i made a mistake with the blade size as searching online there are loads of 115mm blades and a few 125mm ones, this is just for general diy, any opinions please ?

I would stick with the 125mm, I have a cordless 115mm and there have been many times recently where that extra 1cm (;)) would have been handy, I have had to switch to the 9" which is a beast to wield :D
You can still get 125mm discs at most of the diy stores and plenty online.

thanks it was the amount of 125 v 115 discs in the likes of screwfix/toolstation that had me worried, i know you can use the smaller in the larger machines but that threw a doubt in my mind

I've got to drill some bathroom tiles to put up a new shower curtain rail. The tiles might be ceramic or might be porcelin (they're large and matte finish).
Are there any tile drill bits that are well-liked? The average review for bits from cheap to Bosch is ~3 out of 5.

Do You have a grinder? I gave up on drill bits a long time go and use M14 fitment dry holecutters from Protilertools https://www.protilertools.co.uk/product/pro-tiler-dry-cut-m14-diamond-hole-cutter---6mm/44682

I'm still looking for a brush cutter / line trimmer and after reading up feel the 36v Makita platform is probably a better fit than the 18v offerings. I'm torn now between

Makita DUX60Z Split Shaft + Brush Cutter Attachement (300mm cutting diameter) = £220ish without batteries

or

Makita DUR368LZ Twin 18V (36V) Li-ion LXT Brushless Brush Cutter (350mm cutting diameter) = £200ish

The idea of the split shaft is attractive, but the attachments are pretty pricey. For twenty quid difference though it might give me further options down the line, versus the single tool. Any thoughts, would be great to hear from anyone who has used them both etc.

I have the MAKDUR188LZ which is a split shaft line cutter. Split shaft is nice for storage and the 18v is more than powerful enough for my needs but I'm only doing borders with it.

any Makita nuts know of a way to choose the right MAKPAC for your tools, i like things tidy and currently have a
Makita DTW1002Z Impact wrench
Makita DJV180Z Jigsaw
Makita DHP456 Combi drill
and want to put them in 1 or 2 makpacs,
is there a makpac configurator! out there ? or do you just have to wing n prayer it,

Anyone seen any offers for 12v (or less) lighter drill driver, i've got an 18v Dewalt one and a separate impact driver, but for smaller easier jobs or ones in awkward spaces could do with something a bit smaller and lighter.
