Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

I've already snapped one screw i was driving into a piece of wood.

I think I need to work on my pilot holing. I always go too small for fear of making the hole too big. Except for masonry, for some reason I end up with holes too big despite using a nr 8 masonry bit with a brown plug which I thought was the right combo.

Chuck wobble. Try to Go a size down and hammer them in for a nice fit

Another box of toys

I've got that set, loved it at first, then found the quality OK but did go through a few doing a shed.. I then was left with Gaps in the box and I hate that..

My neighbour (carpenter) said he prefers buying individual boxes of each type, e.g. DeWalt PZ2 impact bits are £8 for 25:

Although he now uses Wera bits £22 for 15 and he gave me a couple to which they do seem to last!

Another toy turned up this afternoon.
With only one and half eyes I can't drill a verticle or horizontal hole - it looks right then half way in I look at drill bit and it's in at a angle so bought this.
I could probably make one for smaller drill bits with good piece of hard wood and verticle drill press.

You have to be carefull with impact driver - I now use a 7v screwdriver on small screws and when using driver make sure I have the right bit. The screwdriver is Torx and one of the bits supplied was a pilot hole bit -very handy indeed.
I have found Screwfix and Toolstation screws leave a lot to be desired.
The screws we used at work (24yrs ago) never broke and if I went back years later you could still get them out -They were flat blade and Pozi..

The driver earned it cost when I put 4x4 around wifes borders and used 6" screws with nut on top - drove those in well.

Brown plug is 7mm bit iirc.

That said I never use them these days, much prefer a hybrid plug like fisher duo power, you can literally use them anywhere and they are very reliable.

No. One thing I don’t mess around with is dodgy batteries. They probably be fine but they might not be and I have seen enough scooters and hoverboards going up to realise it’s not worth it to save £20…

*unless they can prove the cells are decent e.g. some no-brand Dyson batteries.

But for tools; mind field. If you want to save a few quid; find the cheapest battery from a reputable brand and then fit an adaptor.

Do people get third party batteries/chargers from ebay or uk stores?
Nope no chance. Id buy branded items if its from a reputable seller on ebay is only exception

Eg makita batteries from power tool world ebay.

Unbranded stuff id worry about it causing a house fire.

Just look for the best reviews from the trades and not from those that think anything without a brands name on will explode

Anyone got one of these? Looks interesting, but would like a user review :D

18V ONE+™ Cordless Patio Cleaner with Wire Brush (1 x 2.0Ah)

I reckon it would work, but it's only going to be useful if your patio is in bad condition in the first place, i.e. has big cracks in it because it needs regrouting.

Thanks for the video, looks ideal to be honest, but I'll probably stick with my tried and trusted method

I just use weedkiller.

Don't my garage up after having a new roof on it. Getting rid of the cheap racking and building some with left over 2x6 and some plywood.
My 18v DeWalt circular saw just want up to splitting the 2x6 so ended up getting an Evolution 185mm 1600w circular saw and it's seriously powerful went through it like butter. The 18v one just kept getting too hot and cutting out.
Some times 240v is just the better option.

Anyone use battery garden tools?

I keep fighting with my petrol strimmer every year and thinking of buying the Milwaukee quick lock tool. (I have other tools from this brand so can use the battery’s)

Reason going for the quick lock I’ve just recently planted a lot of hedging so this can kill two birds with one stone.

I have it, it's great, depending on how much strimming you have to do I would go with the 12Ah battery though, or at least the 8HA.
