Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

On the subject of thin kerf blades they can deflec, especially in harder woods giving you wobbly cuts. This is more likely in circular saws than mitres I'd guess

Just accidentally ordered myself one of these https://www.dewalt.co.uk/product/dcmbl562n-xj/18v-xr-brushless-blower-tool-only?tid=579896 to add to the garden tools :D
Any good?

Had some fun with my new Stihl battery long reach hedge cutters today. Was sick of buying cheap and them breaking in a matter of uses. We have lots of hawthorn hedges which are very tough but the new Stihls made light work, so far very impressed. They cost a bomb (I got the pro ones) but I'm hoping they last

Going to buy myself one of these after my previous brushed makita (Ds611 died) I checked the brushez on that and opened up the unit but couldn't diagnose the fault.

Pretty ****** off its died after 7 years diy use but hey.

Yes so far seems good, used to clear the patio instead of sweeping, clear out the garage after cutting wood probably overkill for those tasks but the hedge isn't due for another few weeks but I doubt it'll struggle :D
Likes batteries thought.

I've still not bought one of these as I started deliberating about getting the 18Vx2 rear handle version, the DRS780 for about £60 more. It's significantly more powerful apparently but do I need it? Do I really? :)

Hmmm I think it would be a bit too heavy/unnecessary for whatever I've required. I've also got a 255mm evolution chop/mitre saw.

Fyi ffx are doing 20% off via ebay if you are looking, altho I bought from powertoolworld and it's not far off.

That's a good price but when I add shipping it's more expensive than Screwfix or Amazon sadly. As you say, I'm wondering if the DRS780 would be a bit unnecessary for the projects I have planned.

i would get the twin battery 780 if i was to rebuy. i have the 610 and its good but a little underpowered in hardwood. puts a lot of load on the batteries also.

What have you looked at so far? Something like:

DEWALT DCD796P1-GB 18V 5.0Ah XR Li-ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Drill Driver £189

Might be good. Available from Wickes, seems to get good reviews on Amazon.
Been looking at https://www.diy.com/departments/dew...ill-2-x-4ah-dcd778m2t-gb/5035048723593_BQ.prd or buying a bare DCD805N and getting a battery+charger but this works out at £200+. Honestly with the sheer amount of Dewalt combis available, i'm not sure which ones are decent for DIY or not

Most of them are decent enough. What are you going to be using it for mostly? I'd say Dewalt was a decent brand to choose. If you don't have a battery system yet, then think about the wider ecosystem and what else you might need. Obviously 5ah batteries will last longer than 4ah, but is that something you need?

Also, think about the physical size of drill that will be most appropriate for your work.

Screwfix almost always have a pair of impact and combi plus 2 batteries, on offer.

e.g.

Or a refurb version:

Eventually want to get some garden stuff (strimmer etc) so dewalt looks ideal. I like the look of the compact DCD805 and the 100yr anniversary one
