Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

Yeah it was rage 3

Cut a lot of flooring and not had an issue (I think skirting should be scribed rather than cut in the corners anyway?). Also mitred some Scotia. For DIY use I'd recommend.

For cutting skirtings I dont think the squareness will matter as the edges will all be relative.
Ah, thank you, that's a good point regarding the skirtings being all different angles. I don't think there is a square corner in my house.
We're still undecided on flooring at the moment but if it is wood/laminate the saw will be put to good use.

Don't cut laminate with a mitresaw, it takes the edge off the blade in no time and they're not cheap! A jigsaw is ideal for cutting laminate to length if you have one.

Would it do that with the evolution blade too given it's made for cutting metal and other materials anyway?

I've always used my jigsaw but was planning on the mitre saw when I'm next laying it.

Forgot to post and I don't know if it'll be honoured as it's a seller on Amazon rather than Amazon.

But the Dewalt DCL040 18v torch comes up for £8 in a variety of guises, some including a 2ah battery and charger.

Also any recommendations for site lamps? I could do with some when I board out the loft as I can't really wire up a light till it's done. Are the really cheap ones ok or should I be looking at LED ones now?

Nice one

As a heads up, Screwfix have a huge sale on Drill bits at the moment. I've picked up a pile of Auger bits for about £1.50 each. I paid £5 for one the other week.

I'm not 100% sure, they might use a harder grade of carbide, or it might be more to do with how the teeth are set that allow them to cut metals. All I know is that I bought a brand new Bosche optiline blade for my mitresaw and it was blunt halfway through the flooring job :(. £30 down the drain, where as a jigsaw blade is like 30p. Plus a single jigsaw blade from sharp will do an average sized room of laminate because of the way it cuts on the up stroke it tends to just break the melamine, rather then cutting through it.

I'd wait till you're planning on replacing it anyway and then try it so you're not risking a new blade.

I've got one of these from good old Screwfix

There's a more powerful version for another £10 but this has been great for an assortment of jobs, especially decorating the landing where there isn't much light.

Personally id go for the Evolution which i did becuase its so versatile being able to cut metal and even stone if you swap the blade for a diamond blade. Checkout the evolution store on ebay for reconditioned units!

Doesn't seem to be any on their eBay store at the minute. Could you not do the same with any saw with and correct blade?

If you're talking about the evolution rage s3 mitre saw surely you're comparing apples to oranges? (ie not the same tools). A disc saw would be good for cutting open floorboards for example.

Well in the Screwfix sale, they've got Titan circular saw blades for half price which is about £6 for a 10" one for my Mitre saw. Will pick up a wood blade and see how it goes.

I picked up all my drill bits before. I can only assume they're clearing stock on Titan accessories as i don't see any reason to sell so cheap. A shame as they're reasonable quality.

Makes you wonder about other Titan products, with them stocking both Titan and Erbauer as "own brand" products.

If anyone is after a new mains SDS drill Lidl is doing one next Thursday for 39 quid - also selling drill bits and circular saw blade to go with the mains saw they are also selling.
