Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

Don't know if anyone took up the offer on the Dewalt 18v torches but i've had confirmation mine have shipped, so for £24 i've got 3x Dewalt DCL040 torches, 2 chargers, 1 2ah battery and 1 4ah battery.

Obviously we'll see what actually gets delivered!

I did see your post regarding that deal however I really didn't think it would be fulfilled.

I really hope you receive them and if you do then you've had a right result!- please let us know of the outcome.

Edit;

Still no news on the SDS that we ordered, I spoke to Amazon via live chat and the operator reassured me that once they receive them they will dispatch it for that price.

Will do, more than happy to share if they turn up as i definitely don't need 3!

My date for the SDS keeps being pushed back. Think i'm on delivery between 23rd and 30th August now. No rush though. Only issue is i had about £130 of gift cards which i was using to help justify it which i'm slowly spending as they don't take payment till it ships. Gonna make it harder to explain £200 on the bank statement!

On another note i think i'm all done with buying tools. I've recently added a belt sander and random orbital sander (both cheap Titan ones). I don't think there's actually anything else i could use now. The belt sander is a beast, although as with my electric plane i was making a bit of a hash of things until i got my technique right.

Least not until i move house and get a workshop to allow me space to have a table saw anyway.

To follow on from my previous posts, i don't know how i lived without a circular saw before. It's had a lot of use in the last few days. Makes light work or jobs and much more accurate than cutting 3ft lengths with a jigsaw! As with the sander i need to perfect my technique as i find i'm pressing in a bit much at the front so as i exit the cut i'm tilting a little.

Haha very true, however im not sure there's much i don't own now! In the last year i've bought

New drill
New mitre saw
New Jigsaw
Impact Driver (x2)
Electric plane
Belt sander
Random orbital sander - Went for the Titan as the Makita one you mentioned doesn't come with a case and since it won't be used often i'd prefer it being tidy.
Circular Saw
Demolition breaker
SDS drill (if Amazon honors it)
3x Dewalt torches

That's not including all the hand tools i've bought! Putting it all on paper like that makes me realise my wife has a point when she tells me i spend a lot!

Yeah, bought one a few years back when i needed to do some rebates. It's only a 1/4" though so maybe i can convince myself to upgrade to a 1/2" one but that seems silly!

Have just bought my first hand plane, i imagine thats a slippery slope with so many around!

Also could do with a decent set of levels, Screwfix have the Forge Steel set on offer but think i'll wait a while yet.

I have an urge to buy a table saw to save getting the mitre saw out just cutting wood to length - something else to hide in the man cave! :D

If you want to sand odds and sods (eg marks on doorways pre painting) what's the best kind to get? Eg orbital or belt..

I have a belt wired one that's probably about 15years old but it's pretty poor.

Ideally it would be battery and Makita LXT to match my existing batteries. (I'm open to wired if they're better)

I've always read that the random orbital ones are the best of both between a Belt sander and a finishing sander.

A belt sander is more for stock removal that finesse work so i think you're best with the random orbital type, especially for things you can lie flat on a workbench (like a door frame), Makita do a cordless one too which would be great. It's a shame Dewalt don't do one or i'd have got one rather than the Titan corded one.

The other option is a Multi Tool with sanding pad. Would be much more versatile and mines been used extensively on doorframes and skirting in the last few weeks.

One would also cut floorboards but it's not ideal for that. You'd be better with a plunge saw but they're quite pricey.

Could be good. I heard terrible things about the Titan mini circular saw. Which is surprising as a lot of their stuff is decent.

However I like the look of the Von Haus one on Amazon. No idea how it is though.

VonHaus Compact Circular Mitre Saw Kit Guide / Rail 85mm Blade Diameter 600W Motor 27mm Max Cutting Depth Angled Cross Cut Laser https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00QV8ZE1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FHGKzbM7NXEGC

I wonder how long the blade lasts because in one of the pictures it's cutting laminate.

It might be ok as the blade looks to cut upwards through the laminate. Its the top wear layer that is the hard part as its made from aluminium oxide. The blades seem pretty cheap so at least its not too costly if it does wreck the blade after the job.

Yeah I think we're golden and will get the drills, they have just adjusted my date too... October 4th to October 21.

Maybe trying to get people to cancel?

Mines still showing the 23rd-30th August :p Maybe i'm special because i have prime so get priority on the first batch?

I see the price has gone back down, it was £194 when we ordered it, then crept up to £198 and now it's back at £195.

Don't have a use for an SDS right now but, hey, I've joined the queue :D Would mean more batteries to share with my Dewalt combo & torque driver
