PPI Claiming

Indeed, unfortunately its now fine to claim even if you did know about it.

It is apparently fine to claim money back on the premiums even if you actually made use of the PPI and claimed money through being out of work! It can still be counted as mis-sold.

Essentially you get to keep your all your winnings and you get your bet back again.

That is good to know.

We're so wrong that Kronos confirmed that was the case for his partner who got the huge cheque....

Banks were adding PPI to borrowing or you didn't get the loan, getting a loan does not mean you are reckless with money, i had loans over the years to buy cars like millions of people still do.

This thread made me have another look into my cards over the years. Put one in for Halifax and today received £2252.92 from them!
They didnt even call me as they said they might, just made me fill out a rather lengthy form.

Nice one :)

Assume it was credit cards you had?

Prompted by this thread, I encouraged my parents to make a claim, knowing they had copious loans when I was a kid to cover various business expenditure.
They received a £12k cheque in the post today :)

I started a claim off with Barclays and I've got two hits, one on an "Egg Card" and one on a "Barclays" loan, complaint is still in progress, how much £££££ can I expect ;)

Egg card resolved, £1250 paid to me :) (not bad for 10mins on the FCA website)

Still waiting on Barclays select Loan to pay out!

I've been putting checking off for ages but figure I need to do the check before this supposed deadline next year - I've no issue with doing to work myself but where I fall down is knowing who to approach to do the check - I've had my mortgages with various lenders over the years but I can't remember most of them - let alone account numbers and dates!

Is there a service to find my financial history in this situation and then I can go on to do the checking myself?

The most common cases for mortgages I see at work are:

Alliance + Leicester
Cheltenham + Gloucester (taken over by Lloyds)
Santander (which took over A+L)
Woolwich (taken over by Barclays)
Lloyds/LloydsTSB
Mortgage Express
Nationwide (are buggers to get anything out of!)
Halifax (careful if this is a current mortgage - reclaiming PPI would cancel other insurances if you had Total Mortgage Protection)

If you EVER had anything with LloydsTSB or Egg then for gods sake claim it back. They knew exactly what they were doing, mis-selling was rife with them. Egg usually had a pre-ticked box if you applied online.

My grandparents claimed back on 3 loans from Lloyds after a bit of nudging from me, they weren't huge loans but they got back £16,084. As they went back into the 80s, compensation interest was paid at 15% up to 1st April 1993

I had an Egg card but I'm quite proud in saying that in 25+ years of having a credit card, I've never paid a penny in interest having paid the balance off in full every time!

My concern is mortgages to be honest - again I've usually been pretty strict in not taking any kind of protection - but I guess that's the point in them adding it on without your knowledge!

I do remember being told by a financial advisor that I had "a better chance of being accepted" for a mortgage if we took the protection - I assume this would count as a form of "mis-selling"?

Absolutely. It was quite a common thing to be told that, which was utter garbage. The person selling you the policy would have got a fair chunk of commission for selling it knowing it was pretty worthless.

But would that count as his-selling by the financial institution or would I need to claim against the IFA?

I got a rather large cheque from capital one, £2.5k owed to me due to PPI.

Quite chuffed with that, guess it’s my turn to surprise the missus for her bday. Probably book a nice holiday for us in December, god knows where though.

Still waiting on HSBC and Halifax to sort out my ppi as I received letters from them saying I’m due ppi refunds.
