I believe today you get $1.30/£ where as in August 2004 it was $1.85/£.
Went to the US around about then and got very close to $2 for my £1 from the post office.

It's a rich man's hobby these days. Judging by recent forum posts a decent chunk of us are leaving PC gaming and moving to consoles.
just ordered this to replace my 980 - should be a nice upgrade for 1440p 27" I decided to go for it as I'm holding back on playing some stuff as i want a better experience and Volta may still be a 2018 card. this is a good price and I can afford it so why not. plus i have the Rift VR so that will be a big plus as well
I genuinely won't be forking out a penny more on my PC until this mining craze subsides and GPUs come down to at least "standard pascal" prices. I've been holding off for some time now but honestly if miners just keep snapping up GPUs and driving their prices up then I am out. I am not paying ~£400 on a low to mid range GPU. Just madness. It's a rich man's hobby these days. Judging by recent forum posts a decent chunk of us are leaving PC gaming and moving to consoles.

definitely agree hereThis is standard pricing, 1080Ti pricing is un-affected as miners don't go for these generally and as such mining has had zero impact on 1080Ti prices.
Infact 1080Ti is generally down in price, particular the more fancier premium cards.
So if the mining craze ended, 1080Ti prices would not change, but of course 1070 and 1060 would certainly reduce over time which are the cards the miners really go for.
Well thats true, but with respect not the point I was making. I was talking about the price of low to mid range GPUs quite specifically. This is standard pricing, 1080Ti pricing is un-affected as miners don't go for these generally and as such mining has had zero impact on 1080Ti prices.

£638.99 for a card that still struggles at 60/4K on certain games. I would call it a minimum 4K card at best. The 1080 Ti should be starting at £499.99.
Personally, i'm not spending a penny on any upgrades (TV or GPU) until HDMI 2.1 (4K/120Hz, Dynamic HDR Support, Game Mode Variable Refresh Rate Advantage, etc) has hit the market at a decent price. Period.
Chasing 4K gaming is just a fool's errand just now as it's not even matured yet, plus the money it costs to drive it (presently) will just give you diminishing returns on your investment.

i wanted an upgrade, rocking a R390, does the job but this is just getting nuts, a decent ultra widescreen monitor is now around £1k, a graphic card that is old in tech terms £700 plus, too rich for my blood
Not true:
I hope ultra-widescreen doesn't become the new standard. It might be OK for FPS but it's horrid for other genres.
