** PRE-ORDER SPECIAL: GIGABYTE GTX 1080Ti OC BLACK ONLY £639 !! **

just ordered this to replace my 980 - should be a nice upgrade for 1440p 27" I decided to go for it as I'm holding back on playing some stuff as i want a better experience and Volta may still be a 2018 card. this is a good price and I can afford it so why not. plus i have the Rift VR so that will be a big plus as well :)

You're gonna love it man

It's a rich man's hobby these days. Judging by recent forum posts a decent chunk of us are leaving PC gaming and moving to consoles.
I genuinely won't be forking out a penny more on my PC until this mining craze subsides and GPUs come down to at least "standard pascal" prices. I've been holding off for some time now but honestly if miners just keep snapping up GPUs and driving their prices up then I am out. I am not paying ~£400 on a low to mid range GPU. Just madness.

This is standard pricing, 1080Ti pricing is un-affected as miners don't go for these generally and as such mining has had zero impact on 1080Ti prices.

Infact 1080Ti is generally down in price, particular the more fancier premium cards.

So if the mining craze ended, 1080Ti prices would not change, but of course 1070 and 1060 would certainly reduce over time which are the cards the miners really go for.

Well thats true, but with respect not the point I was making. I was talking about the price of low to mid range GPUs quite specifically.
That is where most customers fall (correct me if I am wrong on that). And where mining is really hurting.

EDIT: I see that this thread is specifically RE the 1080Ti. My bad, I get lost in what thread is what when I have so many tabs open lol.

£638.99 for a card that still struggles at 60/4K on certain games. I would call it a minimum 4K card at best. The 1080 Ti should be starting at £499.99.

Personally, i'm not spending a penny on any upgrades (TV or GPU) until HDMI 2.1 (4K/120Hz, Dynamic HDR Support, Game Mode Variable Refresh Rate Advantage, etc) has hit the market at a decent price. Period.

Chasing 4K gaming is just a fool's errand just now as it's not even matured yet, plus the money it costs to drive it (presently) will just give you diminishing returns on your investment.

by time theres is a single winner of the HDR format war, 8K will be out for 2020 Games :D Plus there will always be a cost to drive 8k 4k... heck took years just to Play Crysis at 1080p how it was envisioned lol ! might actually have to load that up I think now :D

@Gibbo Anyways OCUK could stamp out your Own Backplate for these cards ? even if just in acrylic ?

Agree mate. Prices for PC GPU's, CPU's, Monitors, Motherboards list goes on are super silly atm. They're just driving people away to consoles or out of gaming all together.

Whether this price scales up to be as good value of other premium cards in the past I don't know but I just could not justify paying as much as this for a GPU. It could be a good buy for those who can budget and afford to do so.
My 1070 GTX "middle of the road" is holding its own at 1440p and if the game is good enough to hold my attention to play I do not need the highest of eyecandy settings anyway.

Then again the EVGA SC Ti at £608 a few weeks ago was a good buy, for those who got one.

i wanted an upgrade, rocking a R390, does the job but this is just getting nuts, a decent ultra widescreen monitor is now around £1k, a graphic card that is old in tech terms £700 plus, too rich for my blood

I hope ultra-widescreen doesn't become the new standard. It might be OK for FPS but it's horrid for other genres.

Cheers gibbo, nice looking monitor and reviews well, but...I'm looking to upgrade a 27inch 1440p, this would be a step back, although added benefit of not needing top of the range card to drive it
