*** Pre-season Friendlies Thread ***

Missed the game tonight, how'd we do?

Kagawa is class, Tom Cleverley looked really sharp. Hernandez still yet to understand the off-side rule.

Few niggles defensively, but hey it's pre-season.

If we get RVP in as our out and out striker we could be in for a real attacking treat with Kagawa, Rooney and RVP as our attack.

Watched the goals this morning, great free kick from Rooney and a nicely taken goal from the Kag. Couldn't tell from the video I watched but was it Anderson that played the through ball which led to the penalty?

Also did we play Cleverley and Kagawa as a midfield two? No wonder we left ourselves open :p

Really dont like Lindegaard, hope he's seen as nothing more than a number 2 this season.

He actually had better stats in goal than De Gea last season. His English is better and has more command oh his back 4 when ever I've seen him play. He is a good back up keeper but De Gea has shown more potential to be up their with the best keepers around. Have to remember, there is like 7 years difference between the two.

I also think Lindegaard is pretty good (despite his error yesterday).

He's more of a physical presence than De Gea, which in fairness doesn't take much, but he doesn't have the shot stopping ability, speed and potential that De Gea possesses.

Lindegaard is the kind of keeper I'd want in goal against Stoke, but De Gea would be better against Barcelona, for example.

Here, MEN Sport's United reporter Stuart Mathieson rates the two keepers:

David de Gea

Strengths

Shot stopping is very impressive. He pulls off the eye-catching close-range instinctive saves superbly.
RATING.....................................8

Weaknesses

Ability to take charge of his area and take a buffeting from the opposition has been suspect at times. He did appear to have sorted out the flaw but slipped back into old ways against Blackburn. Concentration levels need to be worked on.
RATING.....................................6

Temperament

Deserves plaudits for adjusting to a new country, language club and style of football at the age of just 20. Though he has made mistakes, and the flak has been intense at times, he hasn’t let it floor him.
RATING.....................................9

Experience

Has two years in Spain’s La Liga with Atletico Madrid, making 57 appearances in a league that rivals the Premier League. Also had a few years with the Spanish Under-21 side.
RATING.................................... 7

Anders Lindegaard

Strengths

Commanding a penalty box is the asset that stood Schmeichel and Van der Sar apart and Lindegaard is not going to be bossed around by opponents in his area. Assured in dealing with crosses and coped with the fact United keepers can be inactive for long periods before being called to make a match-winning save. Concentration levels are top class
RATING...................................9

Weaknesses

Distribution has been very good from day one. He has a physical presence that enables him to command and his shot-stopping is on a par with most keepers. There is no obvious weakness in his game that stands out.
RATING..................................8

Temperament

Revealed to M.E.N. Sport before Christmas that goalkeeping coach Eric Steele has completely rebuilt his game since he came to Old Trafford so you have to have the right temperament to deal with that on arrival in a new country and league. He also talks a good game and has backed that up with actions.
RATING...................................9

Experience

Been in senior contention at clubs since 2003 but has made only 72 league appearances in the Danish and Norwegian leagues, both of which are a lower standard than the Premier League. Has five full international caps.
RATING...................................6

Lindegaard isn't exactly old, no. He could become a lot better than he is now.

Unfortunately we've got two relatively similar keepers overall, switching them on a weekly basis is a terrible idea so I'm not exactly sure what Fergie is going to do. He'll have to favour one fairly early on.

One won't exactly be happy on the bench, either.

Stats are so misleading, you have to take into account who we're playing, what defenders we have playing etc. Stats are fairly useless in most scenarios but especially with keepers. You have to use your eyes and make a judgement for yourself, not just look at a number.

No, because those stats are utterly stupid to use.

Yes, Lindegaard looked good. But he didn't look as good as De Gea.

People watch De Gea for one or two matches or just see a few bad highlights and instantly think he was **** when he was quite possibly the best keeper in the second half of the season at least.

Indeed, there was a massive change in De Gea from when Fergie just dropped him at random regardless of how he played to when we started playing him regularly. If we go back to the former this season...Fergie needs to get his head checked, no team should be rotating keepers.
