Premier League Fixtures - 16/17th August (Spoilers)

Wasn't referring to the Sunderland game last year just our performances and luck away from home in general.

Ahh ok.

We were pretty average today but at this point in the season the main thing is to come away with a win, in a few games time we'll most like improve once Torres and Keane get in-sync and we can go back to last seasons formation when the personel are available.

Not many great performances today except Xabi who was pulling all the strings when he came on, Torres had no service whatsoever but once he got half a chance he buried it like we all know he can, it doesn't look like he's going to take too long this season to get back into the swing of things.

Much better 2nd half but still not good enough. Xabi and Dossena were the stand-out players.

No idea how Kuyt scored 30+ goals for 3 seasons in Holland when he passes when he gets chances like he did today.

Papered over the crack's a little, but you gotta love Torres. Genuine class.

Robbie Keane still needs to prove himself in my eyes, he's obviously got the ability, probably just needs to work himself into his new role.

Forgot to mention Alonso's strike. Had that gone in it would have been better than any of his last 2 and Backham's.
Kuyt out BaZ? :p

Out of the starting 11 when our winger arrives next week but he can do a job in the squad :p

It's just baffling how he's scored so many in the past when he turns down so many clear chances to score.

Probably because he's a shadow of the player that played for Feyenoord?

Why would that be the case?

I think it's more likely he was never any good in the first place, lots of players in the Dutch league with a decent scoring record have moved abroad and have failed to produce goals at the same rate. It always helps your goal tally when several teams in your league are at League 1 standard.

To be fair to Kuyt though he's never been a right winger yet Rafa's stuck him out there for months.

Kuyt is ****, there's no two ways about it. I want him gone tbh, yes he might pop up with the odd important goal now and again but that doesn't make up for 90% of the time when he's utterly useless. We would be much more lethal with a proper winger out there in his position.

It has to be a confidence thing, there was one chance at the end when we were 1-0 up for him to bury it in the corner, he was in acres of space yet decided to square it to Alonso (I think) who had 2 or 3 players around him. That ****ed me off especially as I need at least one correct score in the prediction league and I'm stuck on 0 atm :p

Rafa said Alonso has a dead leg at the start of the game so thats why he played Plessis.

Too many people jumping to conclusions over Rafa's decisions (me included btw.)

Overall good win, but we miss Babel and Mach

Oh, Kuyt was ***** as usual. The second half especially. I think he's terrified of the net tbh.

Commentators especially, some of the things hey come out with is just complete rubbish. You'd think they might do some research before the game to find out why a player isn't in the lineup.

You answered your own question, mate.

He's not amazing by any means but even less used to his surroundings at right wing. Just because he works hard there and does his best doesn't mean it's good enough or that's him playing his best.

Think we should let him go but can't see it happening unfortunately. We'd rather buy some more centre midfielders, central defenders and reserve goalkeepers.

Even in Kuyt's his first season when he played up front he was nothing special, in fact he was pretty poor. He's never shown anything to suggest he was once a player who could be getting us 20+ goals a season.

I'd love for us to sell him too but I can't see anyone paying what we'd want for him. Considering he cost £9-10M we'd want something close to that to not make a significant loss, not even a club as mad as Newcastle would pay that.

Edit: he's probably getting a decent wage packet as well, which I doubt any club would be willing to match.

How did arsenal play today? i know it was 1-0

good enough for 3pts against a pretty poor w.brom team.

we might be missing fabregas today but i fear for us this season after watching all of pre-season and todays match....we're going backwards quickly imo, gallas had another "mental freakout" towards djorou for a mistake ......real team bonding stuff from le captain (i'm joining the "gallas is a ****" fanclub).

if that's the adebayor we're lumped with this season.....good lord :(

Great result for us today, I really thought we'd get a right tonking. Not going to get carried away just yet, but maybe Ince will prove a few people wrong. 2nd in the league as well, I've taken a screen shot, yes I'm sad. :p
