They spent prior to Gerrard arriving but they also lost their best player. Of Gerrard's signings, the only 3 notable arrivals have been Carlos, Kamara and Coutinho, the first 2 have barely kicked a ball due to major injuries.

Villa's owners might want better but I'm not sure their squad is any better than the majority of squads. They could finish 18th or they could finish 8th, like a load of different sides.

His time was up when he started calling out the players in interviews. It's something I think they should be able to do considering everything the pampered players get, but sadly that only ever ends one way.

Been coming a while to be fair. That result this morning of an og, 3 without reply and a red card says pretty loudly that team isn't playing for him and wants him gone.
You can't really suggest that Cash took a penalty and the red card were to make sure Stevie was out? Sometimes these things happen in football, but certainly he wasn't sacked just because they lost 3-0 today. Villa have serious delusions of grandeur if they think they're even remotely close to a top half side, never mind a top 6 or 7 side. They have half a dozen players who just aren't good enough, another 3-4 who are overhyped because they're English. They sold their best player, bought a few who were average at best and admittedly have had injuries. Even Coutinho couldn't save them and he's been massively off form too.

No I am saying the limp and lifeless manner of this defeat is absolutely typical of a managers last game and even more typical of a group of players who no longer give a ****

If any other person in their place of work performs poorly they are the ones who get the sack, not their manager unless the manager is also performing poorly. I've yet to see any player released from their contract for poor performance when really they are the ones who need it most a lot of the time.

Yeah I agree, seems it's unique to sport and probably a bit unfair but they know that going into it. Its up to the manager to motivate and unite the team so he has to take the blame for its failure however if he's not liked by a group of senior players then he's got no chance. Replacing him is cheaper than replacing half your team or even one player. Managers earn far, far less.
What's even more unique to football is the list of proven failed managers that keep getting jobs time after time. Bruce (11 clubs in 22 years ), McLaren, Allardyce, Hodgson, Pullis, Pardew. Could probably chuck Souness and Mark Hughes in there too.

Not sure who Villa think they are but people are throwing Poch and Tuchel as names around

They sold their best player who the entire team was built around and never bought anyone close enough to replace him (although Coutinho is massively off form) before Gerrard took over and then expect to be a top half Premier League team and sack him when the not good enough players can't be moulded into prime Barca.

Eughhh, expected to wake up to that but still made my stomach drop.

Feel crap about it to be honest. There was a real sense of possibility when he came in that weve not had with a manager for a while and I think a lot of us where excited to see where he could take us, but alas he had to go sooner rather then later in this case.

No idea who were going to end up with now. Some very weird names floating about already...
