Pro Cycling Discussion 2019

According to Bardets upload, he did 1 hour 11 minutes at or above 535 Watts today, then nearly 50 minutes at 428-535 :D
I don't see that...

Estimated, thought it was off a power meter or with ftp input. Lazy. Griepel did 30 mins just under, over or briefly way above 6w/kg off his power meter.

I've not seen the stage yet, but assuming you all mean the final climb... Links to Strava data here:
Bardet on climb - Lautaret 47.19 @362W estimated avg (5.5w/kg), Galibier 24.05 @315W est (4.8w/kg).
Reichenbach on climb - Lautaret 46.19 @287W (4.4w/kg), Galibier 24.57 @317W (4.9w/kg)
Greipel on climb - Lautaret 53.41 @279W (3.5w/kg), Galibier 32.07 @290W (3.7w/kg)

Reichenbach being similar weight to Bardet and having his power data, is why I'm included him.

Reichenbach was a minute faster up Lautaret than Bardet. Unsure of his accurate weight though, he's listed at 64kg on wikipedia but looks heavier than Bardet? Could be similar though as we know Bardet is quite tall like Froome, although is usually marginally lighter. Gripel listed at 78kg. Pinot is more impressive but no power data. 1 minute faster than Bardet up Lautaret & 30s faster up the Galibier. He was similar time up Lautaret as Reichenbach (on his wheel?), then obviously faster up Galibier, by 1 min 32s !

Not just climb, stage total.

To be fair, the push was considerably shorter compared to Roglic. Feel sorry for Pinot, admittedly I want to French to lose at everything but I actually like riders like Pinot (as well as Alaphilppe) and would have like to see them make the podium all be it not on the top step.

Very true, but the fact it was his soigneur not a fan! I'm the same I've enjyed watching them both ride, but would much prefer a British winner.

Or ala from cracking totally and the others putting him to the sword.

It stops a huge number of possibilities and puts an asterisk against the tour overall imo.

just finished watching the stage up until the cancellation. Great stage all day. Shame the freak weather put an end to it, but definitely the right thing to do if landslides were occuring, I dread to think if any debris hit a rider or one happened whilst racing.

Wow what a day!
Stage cancelled and a new GC leader!!

Told ya!

Think it was worth the try and showed that Alaphillipe could be dropping some big time over the next two days. Quite telling that G told Egan to go, suspect the yellow jersey will be changing hands tomorrow, to who that is the unknown! :D

They've shortened the stage for tomorrow and altered the route due to the weather/land slides.

59km surely not enough to take 48s (DQT) or 1m28s (TJV). Unless DQT or TJV smash it out the blocks and do something special on the climb, Bernal and Ineos aren't going to lose that

Much of nothing in the end, just some trains after the breakaway. Good win by nibali to hold on in the end, and thoroughly deserved win for bernal, to take back the amount of time he has since the TT is impressive, wonder how many tours he'll win.

Interesting tour. Funny how poor the Ineos squad were in the mountains.

Pity that we never got the fireworks in the last two stages and the GC kind of fizzled out. I am sure Pinot would have given it a go, and the others would have had a crack at the podium.

I think the winner would likely have been the same but the others may have been shaken up more.

One of the best editions of the TDF in quite a while, I really enjoyed it. As you say, funny how poor Kwiato and Moscon were, they just weren't in it at all. Considering how people were talking about how many riders you needed to help control the race to ensure you have a good chance of winning, Ineos claimed 1st and 2nd with 5 and a half riders (counting Luke Rowe as half as he was sent home)

Great tour throughout, shame it was curtaildd a bit and pinot had to pull out. But all ifs and buts. Deserved winner in bernal, had 1 not so good day on the tt but was flawless every other day it seemed.

G's interview at the end saying about when he's 45, old and fat watching bernal win his 10th tour. Classy in defeat!

Tweet from Kwiato this morning - at best exhausted but perhaps some mental health worries?

Yup, you called it!

The way Egan rode that stage and the 'cut short' one (I've lost count of stage numbering this year as the ES app doesn't tell you them anymore!) it would've been criminal for him not to win it really.

Is the short stage worth watching? Or how about the final? Last year I watched last 30 minutes of the final and it was enough of a bore-fest so may even skip it this year.

His TT ride was really poor but then seeing the power/form he had in that final week makes me think it was even tactical. G rode it to win it and take the jersey, just Alaphilipe was a surprise TT win, which they figured he didn't have the legs/team for the Alps so just sat back and let things unfold until they knew they could affect the race and overall GC?

Interesting tour. Funny how poor the Ineos squad were in the mountains.
Poor or tactically sitting back letting things unfold. Hard to judge without them having yellow to defend as we've seen them doing other years you cannot really compare. DVB and Rowe where immense, much of the time even on the climbs. Castroviejo incredible as always. Kwait and Moscon kinda the opposite - but shows the strength of the team. Seeing the way Poels was marking and riding those last couple of days they still had him up there if required. They just didn't really need him with Bernal so strong.

Totally agree, but also the way it played out - Ineos didn't need to control things. There's only a couple of times we saw their sky-train tactics up the climbs (can we call it that now? Barely an Ineos-train was seen!). Without them having yellow they really did take a step back. It worked for them - their key riders being more rested and in form for the Alps. Don't think it helped Moscon and Kwait much, but we did see how strong they where a couple of times in the first week. Maybe riders like that needed harder racing to perform at their optimum or as Kwait said in that tweet - just too tired and out of form.
