Pro Cycling Discussion 2020

Absolute clown but I wonder how/if that decision would have been made if roglic didn't pip him.

Keep your eyes out today. I'm sat at 1500m to go, just as the barriers start. Just the 3.5hours to wait now.

You can tell he means business because he takes his arm warmers off :p
What a finish. Just puts his head down, no glances, gets his cadence in that rhythm and smashes it. Doesn't care if anyone follows or taper/change his effort. So focussed. I've not seen the rest of BBT but what a finish in that video - what we love of VDP and just in a league of his own!

Should be DQ completely from the results. Justice was served on the finishing line for his dangerous riding.
This the Giro? Stage 2 at a guess? I've not watched it yet but did have a weak moment last night and bought myself Race Pass (month sub), before then watching the G documentary on BBC/ITV 'The Road Will Decide'. Quite good if you've not caught already. Not much in there for many in here, but well worth pointing new Cycling watchers towards as gives some real insights into various things.

No it was LBL. In other news G looks to be out of the running in the Giro already due to a crash in the neutral zone.

Edit: Geez they are dropping like flies, looks like Yates is out of the running as well. As usual the Giro is unpredictable and the better for it

Sounded like mayhem on the way up trying to see what was going on. We got a good spot and relatively quiet considering. Shame to see Thomas and Yates drop off, Thomas obviously due to his crash, he didn't look good with the bits we could watch and when he went past us, but no idea on Yates.

Funniest moment of the day for me was when James Knox went past and I gave him a "Go On James" and he just looked around thinking wtf how does someone actually know me. don't think he expected a brit up there today. I will try to get some pictures up over next few days but wifi here is awful.

All the italians got a good cheer especially Ganna once he made it up. Had to go down Etna in that rain, a not pleasant experience.

Hirschi would have won if he didn't do that. He stopped a rider from winning and could have easily caused yet another bad crash..... A full DQ from the results was the only thing that would suffice in that situation. It sets no example to deter dangerous riding and also shows UCI are as shady as we all know because they don't have the balls to DQ the world champ.

They seem to be adamant they "protect the image of the sport" but on this decision it proves otherwise. An element of protecting image of the sport has to fall on the poster boy world champ as well and he's made a good start on that eh!

I had to look this up and it’s up to the comms to decide whether it was an “irregular sprint” or a “deviation from chosen line that endangers other riders”. The latter is a DQ in a one day race, the former is just relegation to the back of the group. No idea what the difference is.

Not rushing out to buy a POC Tempor because from what I gather you need your position absolutely nailed or they’re shocking.

Listening to luke Rowe geraint Thomas podcast and they were talking about the world's. Luke was told by his coach it was his hardest ever day on the bike. 470TSS FOUR HUNDRED AND SEVENTY. And he missed the last lap. That is insane.

Im guessing the difference is probably no one crashes it’s the former and taking someone out and causing a crash is the latter, although you can probably quote an example contrary to that as the UCI are hardly consistent.

Haha awesome, shame you don't have a video of it! :D

Insane, but what a ride from him. Fantastic work to be still there later in the race trying to get Pidcock in the front. Unsure what happened to Tom on the end part but he did well for his first WC's. Plenty of footage of him riding well in the later laps (just not the final) from the one I watched (Think it was BBC2 footage).

There's a good writeup/comparison on Velonews about it and dives into the data and numbers. One of the Strava pics there (think with Stravastix data) has Valgrens ride with a TSS of over 500. That final gap on the climb created by Alaphilipe at around an estimated 7.4-8w/kg for 3 and a half minutes. Crazy numbers.

Word is Thomas won't start this morning. G, Froome and Bernal at the Vuelta then?
Gutted for G. He's ridden well but not one of his good years really.

Would be fantastic to see Froome finding some form/fitness and ride a joint leader alongside Bernal but think I'm just being hopeful. Bernal has been really quite disappointing so far this year, think I've kinda gone off him this year. Especially while other of the Ineos team have been incredible and had great years!

Thomas just has no luck, everytime he falls off a bike he breaks a major bone he did well yesterday considering he had a broken hip! Not sure what it leaves for ineos apart from chasing a few stages and winning all the time trials I don't think Gohagen-Hart is going to trouble the GC boys. You'd think they will be all in on the Vuelta with the strongest team they can pull together a win there would salvage what has otherwise been an utterly disappointing and forgettable year for them.

I agree if only because I had a double bet on him and Ulissi at the Giro

Ala gets his win in the WC jersey.

MVDP looking like a rookie getting boxed in and then Ala celebrating early again...

MVDP easily the best/strongest at the end of that but narrowly loses....

I've seen 3rd cats with more race craft than MVDP. Being so strong he hasn't needed to learn, but it's starting to become a bit of an issue.

Good shout I hadn't actually thought about that. But on the other side he seems to be very I tune to how powerful he is on a given day which is how he's pulled out those fantastic wins with big long efforts.

Yates out of giro with cv and roubaix cancelled. Wonder how much longer we'll get racing for. Vuelta going to be cancelled with the way Spain is currently.
