Pro Cycling Discussion 2022

Strong Mapei vibes from certain teams this season:

To be fair, Laporte only stayed with WvA because he waited. Jumbo’s tactic seemed to be to let van Aert set the pace on the climbs and see if the domestiques could hold his wheel to help on the flat, rather than burning domestiques to create gaps.

Unfortunately the case. And you're not the first to post the same image.

I Know you've had the same concerns with sky/ineos in the past but this is on a different level. jumbo and uae are just riding away every single time irrespective of its a single day or multi day race. Unfortunately for me it is not believable to make such a jump in performance for all of the riders, especially those that have been average for years and all of a sudden are riding away from everybody. Pog literally hasn't had a bad day since midway through vuelta 2019. Roglic the same if he could stay upright.

Although I have said to a mate that potentially what they're doing isn't illegal currently, but I suspect in a year or twos time it will be. I hope whatever happened to colbrelli wont be something we see more often like the epo casualties.

Sky had a handful of alien performances but for the most part they raced very defensively through taking advantage of having an insanely strong team. Whatever edge they had was small but they also had the knack of never having bad days. I agree this is another level, seeing Pogacar, van Aert etc just ride away from people miles out is crazy.

Agreed but that was one 3 week race per year every year, they struggled to ever replicate it elsewhere even when they won vuelta and giro (froomes solo is still stupid when looking back but he had very average days before that).

I'm actually getting to the point where I'm barely making the effort to watch the one dayers which I usually watch from start to finish, flanders is just going to be jumbo and uae riding on the front all day.

What a sprint. Shame my bet on him was last week. Race was brutal throughout despite not a lot of wind. Dqs nowhere today. Now to catch up on catalunya. Yesterday was excellent. Can't beat a good bad weather day.

Dwars Door Vlanderran was amazing today, attack after attack after attack! if Flanders is as good on Sunday it'll be a cracker, although I don't foresee it being the same.

Wow what a mad finish at flanders. Glad pogacar didn't win and got stuffed off the podium. Mvdp looked an absolute animal today, didn't see him for first 130k,so great ride.

Agreed a cracking race, Pogacar is going to find it much harder this year, he is going to get the full on Sagan we are going to box you in treatment. Mind you he could probably mince the peloton solo anyway but was great at MVP got it. Great for cycling all around.

Basque country has been good this week with everyone knocking chunks out of each other, then some made finish today on that steep uphill with a tiny bit of rain and riders running over the line!

Another good tense finish at amstel today. Did wonder how kwiato had messed it up, but timed to perfection. Love how the normal sprinting expectations just go out there window after 250 hard kms.

Just rewatched the finish and the reactions, how diligent was Cosnefroy! What a bloke!

I was pleasantly surprised how composed he was when he heard he had come second after he celebrated the win, fair play to him for taking it so well natured. Being French I expected him to kick off, sulk and go on strike but he took it all in his stride. As you say, what a bloke.

The race organisers really need to sort their **** out

I was really confused as to where he got the info from, I reckon that was the team more than anything!

Today's the day for Paris Roubaix. If yesterdays women's race is anything to go by, it's going to be a huge battle of attrition for punctures, they were getting them left right and centre. The ruts on the side looked bumper than normal and the cobbles were soooo full of dust. Unfortunately I'm at a family thing today so won't be watching until tonight.

Women's race was great if you get a chance to watch it and a fantastic team win for trek and longho borghini.

What
A
Race!

Have just sat for the last 5 hours watching. We've had some great roubaixs in the last 10 years but the level of madness and carnage today was insane.
