Pro Cycling Discussion Thread 2015

We're all different.

For me it's the lore, they mysticism. I just want to enjoy the race without the silliness that inevitably crops up.

Still surprised you keep you sig for me he needs consigning to the history books every time I see it I'm just reminded that his legacy is forever tarnished along with almost an entire generation of pro's

Uh oh! There's that can of worms he didnt want :p

Not really everyone is entitled to their opinions and if he wants to remember George then fair enough I'm sure there are plenty that still revere Armstrong and even I admit that watching old footage of him in his peak on youtube is phenomenal he might have been fuelled by a right dodgy cocktail but he was still an amazing athlete.

We'll know who's doping in three weeks when they win the tour. That's how it works, right? Winning a race like this is literally impossible unless you're doping.

Anyway, moving on...

Cav is my outside bet for today 50:1 for the stage win.

Not sure I can see Cav making it over the cobbles at the front of the Pelton I guess I like everyone else is expecting a massive push from Tony Martin it is his last chance this year to wear yellow and I think he will give it everything and be given the teams support they need a boost after the start they have had!

I'll bite why do you think Froome is on gear ? I'd say Astana must be more obvious :p

To be honest I think most of the guys racing are probably on something questionable, whether thats banned yet on not is another question. I just don't think its possible for a body to support that level of performance with that level of body fat without being ill.

I agree about Astana, they're just plain dirty imo. Everyone is crying about Astana getting booted out of the MPCC because of Lars Boom as well, Sky never even joined the MPCC :o

Extremely low BF% and masses of training + low water retention during photo. I have literally no idea why that sparked some hints at doping..... a lot of the guys in the peloton will have arms like that, it is more to do with genetics on how prominent it is. Check Kennaugh's Instagram for example, his quads are vascular as hell, must be because he dopes right? Nothing to do with training 4 hours+ every single day as a pro athlete?

Yeah, why wouldn't they have wanted to join a body with such illustrious mascots against doping as Astana...

Are there time points up for grabs? If Martin can get to the front and sneak a few seconds and grab yellow that would be a good result for Sky without having to defend the yellow jersey too much? Really gutted he didn't grab it after Cav ran out of gas. Saying that though, I imagine sky will want to be at the front for the cobbles.

This from le tour live feed earlier:

Time keepers gave a precision after yesterday's stage: had Tony Martin (Etixx-Quick Step) crossed the line six hundredth of a second earlier, he would have been classified in the same time as Chris Froome and would have been awarded the yellow jersey according the thousands of seconds recorded in the inaugural time trial.

Coverage started at 128km? They not televise the whole thing?

No, usually just the last 3-4 hours of the stage.
Today's stage is 228k which is going to be around 5.5 hours racing.

Some of the big mountain stages might be live from the start but not much really happens in the first couple of hours of a flat stage.

The mrs was around when I was watching yesterday's highlights last night, and said that it was quite interesting, but she couldn't imagine watching hours of it. I've got to agree, it's just not that interesting watching the peloton bimbling around on the flat for hours on end. Mountain stages are better, and maybe you get something interesting if there's a good breakaway or something like that, but long flat stages are fairly dull!
