Project - 37a (Wendyhouse)

Block work completed! (kind of)

Today the guys came and finished the "main" block work. External skin and lintels are now finished as well as internal skin, lintels and wall plate.

In other goings on, I now have the RB260GSP PoE switch thats going into the loft, this will power 2 Ubiquiti air cams covering the front and rear of the house as well as a bullet wifi access point until I get an electrician to add some sockets in the bedrooms.

Just another 7 cable runs to put in, 4 for the main router to attic, 1 for client unit and 2 for CCTV. Next week I should have a roof and be watertight by the week after, possibly some windows and I'm hoping to get the cable runs finished so I can finally get some wifi upstairs.

That's all coming along nicely.

Have you bought the windows and doors yet? It won't be long and they will be going in!

Certainly have! The doors and windows were bought before the blocks went up. Ready for it to be finished now as I'm desperate for some man space. The dividing line between office and shed is ever increasing the office size though :-/

Non photographic update;

Finally plucked up some effort and gone into the attic and cleaned some of the cabling up, it's mostly all tacked up now out of harms way. Started punching down into the patch panels, office is connected up fully now which now only requires 1 of the 3 runs down to it (backup and backup for the backup extra).

CCTV brackets are now mounted up.
Attic wireless AP is now securely mounted and punched down into the panels as well ready for when the PoE switch goes in. Just have some painting to do in the front room then the cables will go in, so far on target for this weekend.

Roof is on!

Well the gods of bank holiday have been kind, I now have a roof, it is boarded over and the fascia is up and on. I have some guys coming Friday to felt it so it will be fully watertight! (Yes I've been up on it and it took my weight so I'm happy it works as a roof should)

I have also managed to get the main router to attic cables in along with the CPE and front CCTV camera cables. Only the rear CCTV cable to go in now (the one I want most if I'm honest)

Roof:

This is the shed side door;

My pile of plastic;

This is the rear CCTV cam bracket, my last remaining cable run goes to this

A quick shot of the patch panels, yes it's an Ikea Lack table. The switch is powered by PoE and gives out PoE on 4 of the 5 ports, ideal for 2 CCTV cameras and the wifi access point up there.

Bullet 2 in the rafters providing wifi to the upstairs, this will get replaced with an Asus RT-N56 once I get a sparky in to sort out my lack of upstairs sockets.

So all in all a very busy weekend and the cables that I thought were going to be terrible to run I managed to pull up all together on 1 big pull and I'm so glad they did as that could have been a time killer.

Roll on Friday!

Just stumbled across this build, I'm very impressed, wish I had a garden!

You've inspired me to get my loft sorted, it has lots of down beams every metre or so, so will need to convert it. I'll be sure to do a build log if I do!

Keep up the good work, looking forwards to seeing the completed build!

Roof watertight

So happy to be posting this one. The roof has been watertightened (is that a word) today.

And I've finally finished all the cabling into the attic, HOORAY! The CCTV cameras are now both working and are just waiting for the cave to be finished so they can start recording on motion detection.

I've found the rear outside light doesn't work so thats on the hit list now due to the cameras not having amazing low light record qualities.

So is that classed as permitted development? I dunno if there is another term for it in England?? No planning required?

Looks good though, can't wait to see it once you move to doing the internals.

Correct on both the building and the wording. Believe me I can't wait to get onto the internals now, so many bits and bobs I want for it yet it's all still pipe dreams at the moment.

Have you decided ont the split between cave and storage? Don't make the mistake I did and have half as a utility room , it hardly gets used and I wish I had more space in the office .

Pretty much, I was going to go for a 50/50 split but then the office has slowly crept bigger, the office now stands at near enough 3m x 3m. The shed side is bugging me that I'm just making a wooden box mega expensive so it's getting smaller day by day.

I nearly decided to stuff the shed and have the whole thing as office space but it'd be a bit too big plus I have lots of man toys to store but not in plain view.

Floor stage 1
Stone bottom layer is in

Will be whackered Friday evening.
Concrete booked for 12 midday Saturday
Sparky due for 1st fix Sunday

The end is nearly within sight!

Wot, no underfloor heating! :D

No underfloor heating I'm afraid. However, there is 100mm of celotex to go down over a bed of sand and DPC before the final concrete pour (100mm).

Once the flooring is down I'm looking at finishing up, I'll be putting in some Cloud 9 cumulus 11mm underlay and a reasonable carpet. Hopefully it won't need any floor heating then :-)

Once its full of servers and gaming pcs it wont need no heating

Fully agree :-) However I am having an on the wall dimplex just in case.

No guttering to direct the water run-off? Are you not worried about water potentially pooling or running in?

Fabulous progress - really looking forward to each update as they happen...

Thankyou.

The guttering is going on shortly. The importance was getting the wood on and the felt over it, there's also a joint bit for the fascia to go on one side which will be done at the same time as the gutter. Gutter will run off into a large butt I think.
