Project Alternate

Amazing work so far mate! I will be sure to check back for updates!

Some serious skills getting put to use for this build , amazing ! Nice job on the mobo paint job too :)

Love the paint job on the mobo, looks awesome!

Thanks, glad most people like the paint job :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video now up for the rundown on build items, don't lol to hard at my recording voice, its was 3am & im very sleepy Zzzzzzz

I also did a small video log, its mostly all the photos already posted on the forum along with some music.

Update log should be up later today :)

.

With the arrival of the reservoirs last week & now the pumps I can workout the internal setup.
over the last week iv added some internal walls & removable bases, installed the 2X reservoirs,
radiators & soon i will have the pumps in place.

When im happy with the layout it will then all be removed before painting/wrapping.

after that's completed it will then be time to move the desk inside so i can work on the tubing & wiring.

Oh, also went with position 2 for the front panel & edged the front of the desktop.

Using the provided brackets to fit them under the top shelf, will wrap or paint them at later date.

Covered them with some masking tape so as not to scratch them

A final pic for you, looks almost complete here, but still lots of work to be done

this is looking impressive mate!! can't wait to see the finished product (I bet you're even more impatient than we are)

Thanks Jim,
Yes I cant wait! also need this done ASAP for a couple of reasons but don't want to rush & mess anything up, especially paintwork &/or wrapping.

waiting for the glass now so I can make the final cuts to the outer part of the desk.
as i wait iv been doing bits on the inside & component related stuff, but none of them are completed yet,
will have some updates at the weekend for you ;)

Im using 2x 360 RADs for this build, they will be fitted to the brackets almost directly under the RES on both sides, Iv decided to move them away from the outer desk edges to help lower fan noise & give better options for dust control.
by doing so I had to add the channels shown in the earlier photos, to help move the hot air out the back of the desk.

As with all new RADs they needed a good clean, using the Blitz Pro kit that Mayhams kindly provided I had good results :)

Im using the i7-5820K for this build along with a Alphacool NexXxoS XP³ Light - Brass Black Chrome version,

The pumps "Alphacool VPP655" & GPU block "Alphacool NexXxoS GPX - ATI R9 295X2"
also planing to mod them slightly to the same red as the other components.

Now decided where im sticking the 2X pumps, sticking with the symmetrical plans iv placed them
in front of the center of both the RADs

20150508_193343_zps4g2wicqe.jpg

Cut a hole in the bottom to help them get some air, if for any reason they sound loud I will block them again, but did this
on my last desk & they worked fine.

20150508_183934_zpsmqii1sl5.jpg

Padded the sides with hard foam to help reduce any vibrations

20150508_193115_zpsdxowa3jj.jpg

Adding 2x Phobya G1/4 water temp readers to measure the temps before & after the RADs/Components

Fitted the glass top using some chunky hinges, the glass is 5mm clear toughened,

To start with I had to make a template for the cutters

What sort of price is custom cut glass if you don't mind me asking?

Looking forward to this being finished

I paid £15, but that was mates rate I think.

At a guess I would think around £50 or more for what i had done,
I will try find out for you later in the week when my friends back at work

I now have the final fans needed for the RADs & desk,
Silencio FP 120 (Black) RADs
MegaFlow 200mm (Red LED) Desk
Jetflo 120 (Red LED) Desk

20150522_201142_zps5rnjv8pk.jpg

Im going to be cutting holes in the base of the MB tray & instaling the 200mm fan directly underneath,
This serves 2 purposes, keep the MB cool & the main reason was to get positive air pressure in to the desk.

In total I will be having 6/7x120mm & 1x200mm IN, 6x120mm OUT.
I will try get this done by the weekend and show you some pics, but for now heres some other bits iv been working on.

Hinges fitted, but will need some adjusting before painting..

Should have some photos of the final finish im looking in the next update, soon as this has been done the desk will be ready to come
inside the house for the internal components & modding to continue

Wow, that thing is going to be nuts!

Im nuts "so my wife says" so we will make a good pair :D

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got my paints & been working on the smaller parts of the desk, wanted to double check the finish &
practice applying the paints before doing the bigger parts of the desk.

because of the deadly fumes in the basecoat & 2K/2pac clear, Im best doing it in 4 stages over the
space of 2 to 3 weeks.

im also short on space, so by painting the bottom sections & then letting them dry (harden) I can then
add the middle section back on top & paint that, same for the top section.

This is the box of paints, cant believe it cost me over £100 :O
should have stuck with vinyl, would have been less messy & a bit cheaper lol

Black Basecoat with thinners, 2K/2pac clear matte with hardener & thinners

this is the base & thinners to be mixed for the bottom coat/base

20150525_160222_zpsyxu3qiur.jpg

primed ready for painting, still needed cleaning down at this part

20150525_152527_zpsskyfsqai.jpg

3 stages of basecoat black applied, still wet at this stage

20150525_164033_zpsdjb5ejeg.jpg

while the basecoat was still tacky I applied the clear coat, because you cant sand the base & clear during any stages as it would alter the appearance of the finish,
the whole process has to be done within about 1hrs from start to finish with no room for
errors :O

20150525_173916_zpsfhwkwg6f.jpg

From wet to dry, the photos will show how the finish changes over day

out of everything iv done so far, this painting has been the hardest part, I hope the extra effort was worth it in the end :D

What do you all think to the colour so far?

Im happy for now, but really need to see it all done & with some red added

the black looks good and the finish once paint looks excellent!

looking forward to seeing it all painted

Love the satin finish. 2k paints are a pain to work with but that finish will be worth it!

Thanks both, yeah the 2K is tricky especially as it shows any & every imperfection & spec of dust :(
got to be super clean & as perfect as possible

To the batcave !

Lovin it, I was kinda freaked out by the shot of Mr Bean in Dexter Morgan's kill room though ;)

Great work

thats what my friend said when he had a look at the plastic wrapped shed,
like a scene from dexter lol

cool paint job it going to look so good when done

Thanks Keechy
feel like I made the rite choice now, & its been a long & hard one

Almost forgot to add the 2x usb sockets to the front :O

20150606_192153_zpsklcqxdnz.jpg

once that was done, I started on the painting, the 3 sections iv done so far took me about 2 weeks due to weather & drying times..

nice, thanks colin :)

----------------------------------------------------------

90% of the paintwork is now completed,
as with the last parts I painted, the top is black base with clear matte (2k)

one final sanding to sharpen the edges

should give you a good idea as to what it will look like when assembled
