Project Alternate

Looks absolutely amazing so far, really can't wait to see the finished project.

As for the hinges I would go with red but a darker, less glossy one than pictured

The hinges also? or just the speaker covers?
sounds like a good idea though, going to wait till the internals are all done now
then will have a better idea as to the looks.

was also thinking of adding some red to the front fans if I add red to the speakers/hinges.

I meant to say the speaker surrounds however the hinges would look good in the same colour.

Get it depends on the ratio of red to black after it's all assembled

yeah definitely, & the hinges will be considered also :)
using blood red water, so going to try keep the reds as close as possible.

Great looking build so far, i would have opted to use a polyurethane expanding glue on the MDF all the heat weight
and expansion/contraction from the heat in the desk will eventually de bond the joints. Unless you pinned and screwed every joint? But i don't remember seeing that done in your posts.

Had never heard of that glue, but will try that out in the future should I use MDF again.
was warned about MDF once I started the build, so used MDF sealer on most the desk & all joints,
wood glue & screws or bolts was used on every joint apart from the parts that come away i.e the top, bottom left & right.

I hope nothing bad happens after all this work :(
but I always have the option of wrapping the whole thing, almost did that but changed my mind last minute.
painting was a lot more costly & hard, but glad atm I went with it.

Honestly it's brilliant you can buy 5min,15min and hour versions if i remember right, you mist both sides to be bonded with a sprayer like what barbers use etc. clamp/pin the bond and leave to set. I've used it to build all sorts (i'm a joiner by trade) and it's never let me down. Just be sure to knife away the excess when tacky so it comes away cleanly otherwise it can be a pig to get off.

I was viewing your thread last night and the missus said thats a nice desk PFFFFT :D

sounds a bit like contact adhesive, that's also new to me & its the 1st time iv used it, love it!
glad you missus likes it, mine hate it I think, always moaning about me spending more time with it that i do with her lol

Stay positive man, you never know! ;)

lol

Update:

Took some shots of the pump lighting, gone with white for now untill I can capture the reds a bit better on a pro cam.
also painted the valve fittings black & red,
& finally, did the hardest bend with 4 turns :D after 2nd attempt :(

Nice pics I find it difficult to even attempt shots like that, very nice effect on the block.
thanks
really hard to capture reds, wish i still had a pro camera, had to sell it last year :(

Man that pump looks savage illuminated like that! Nice plumbing also!

Thanks
yeah, I love the pump lighting, made sure I can see them when sat at the desk this time, I uploaded a vid on my FB page with the lighting moving

hope this link works -

even with the KB on the desk I should only be blocking the 2 SSDs

Holy moly, where's the warp engage button? ! That's nuts man, excellent!

lol, still have to add them mate :D

rather nice :D

every update it get better and better :)

Thanks all :)

UPDATE:

Finally finished with the logos & MB, just need to install the Coolermaster logo around the center SSD compartment,
then that part of the build is completed & I can finish up the loop, add the GPU & small details.

all the reds are much deeper & nicer, hope a professional camera will pick them up a bit better for when i do the final pics :(

I'm thinking of using same motherboard, you've inspired me with it. Wanna try make it look battleship like. Did you add the red light under the armour?

Yeah, 2 red LEDs under the armor, would have to move if i ever use M.2.
but as they effect performance on PCI lane (so im told)
Dont think i will be using M.2 with this setup

Been a bit busy with the family lately, but here's a quick update & should have more by the weekend :)

Completed the runner for the glass top/lift, had a couple of ideas for the lift but this was the best option for now,
cost & time wise.

made from -
A CM Storm Reaper mouse wheel, old shower attachment
& some spare Alphacool hardtube cut-offs.
coated the wheel with some rubber to help grip the glass without scratching hopefully.

Nice modding there mate, not quite sure how it works so will see when you update us.

Ah sorry mate, & others
forgot most people wont have seen the vid showing how it works,
If you can open this YT link then skip to around 4min mark you will get the
idea i hope :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxFLFPlbAgw
will do one in more detail later, but for now its in bits as im working on wires, loop & redoing the side panels (internal)

Wow the wheel turned out great!

Thanks Brian, I knew what I wanted to happen with the lift but wasn't sure how I was going to do it for months lol

great mod but is sad that a mouse had it life taking way :(

Dont worry mate!
what happened was, I sent my modded mouse cover to last years I53 show for Coolermaster
to show on the stand, when they sent it back to me they attached it to a display mouse that didn't work for what ever reason.
so iv just had the spare mouse in a draw for the past year lol

still got my original mouse & plan to re-mod it to match the new desk :)

I could only dream to be good with DIY/creative enough to make a build even 1/3 as cool as this haha...damn..Im still thinking what to do with my ethoo pro

thanks Lawrence :)
Had to google that case, looks nice, I like the side if its the one with double window.
some nicely placed lighting will give a nice effect.

GPU block fitted & now installed, have a couple of ideas for the loop at this point,
will show the results as soon as im done testing them out :)

Thanks all for now, getting excited now that i can see the finish line :D

Happy birthday.

Are you cutting all the lettering by hand? Very cool
Thanks,
Not this time, most are done by laser to save time & have a more pro look :D
im not that good with a multi tool yet lol

Looks great man and happy birthday, enjoy the big 4 0!

Thanks Brian, just chilled @ home with friends & family, still on my crutches so i hate going out :(

Happy birthday dude! Amazing project. Keep it up!

Will do mate, thanks :)

reworked a couple of things as I was waiting for some items to arrive,

redone the cable a bit better & in a brighter red than the 1st attempt..

Wasn't happy with the 1st carbon ASUS logos so iv also redone them, done them the same as the Deblow logo,
used laser cut logos & cut the leather & wood backing to match & blend.
