I hevent actually got the paint yet, but im fairly sure im going for matt black on the inside and gloss white on the outside, with most of the alu polished up.
@ RandomTom.. do you know how long that would take! Its taking me long enough for 1, never mind a family. And anyway, if I get the software working I should be able to program her to replicate herself to make an army. ;)

You could make a little shuttle one though, it could be the baby.

Here, have some updates of the work I did yesterday. The first job I did was to sand down where I had filled in the holes created by air bubbles. I still could probably do with going over again as I noticed a few tiny holes that I had missed, but hopefully a few layers of primer paint should remove the smallest holes.

I then drilled and filed some holes for more cables to fit in. The first one to be done was the VGA cable, which as you can see has been fitted in the back of the head. Im really pleased with the fit of this hole, shame the end of the vga connector is blue though.(The picture doesn't really do it justice, as its much more flush wit the back of the head than the picture shows)

The other cables to be added were 2 PS" cables in the spine. A bit of epoxy glue and they fit nicely. Im going to strenghten them today by covering them in epoxy putty. The only 2 remaining cables to be fitted now are Network cables. Does anyone know if its even possible to get male-female network cables?

Finally I played around with the ey parts to see what they will look like. Im planning on painting the ping pong ball pure white and coating it in varnish to make it look better. Ive also had the idea of buying pale blue contact lenses to make the iris. Anyone know where I can get really cheap contact lenses?

I really need a better camera don't I. Anyway, thats what I did yesterday.

Looking great!! Can't wait until the finished thing!!!

Just out of interest, how much is this thing costing? Must be quite a lot!

"The Gadget Shop", although I think it has a new name now sells all different kind of contact lenses, colors , patterns etc. I'd check there site! :D

Im not counting, as it would be too depressing. Lets just say 'a lot', lol. But as mentioned before, a lot of the cost is on tools which I see more as an investment.

Cheers. :)

contact lenses dry up like from a liquidy substance to a twig. as the posted above suggests try some tinted plastic, or even just leave it with a ping pong ball? as having the lense means the web camera will look funny with it being tinted.

Well I want the eye to look as realitic as possible, so im wanting the whole iris effect etc. The origional plan was to print out the iris pattern on to paper and glue it to the the ball, but with a quick test that didn't look very good at all. The focus being changed from contact lenses doesn't really matter at all, as I can refocus the camera to compensate anyway, but it its going to become really brittle then thats more of a problem. Another otion I want to test, is to try and get hold of some transparrents 'film' and print the iris onto that.

I had completely forgot about this thread, it's looking great! Brilliant work!

You should clearly enter in that random CustomPC modified cases bit once it's done, and maybe similar competitions. Could recoup some of the losses? It's bound to be in with a chance of winning numerous competitions.

Have a look on ebay for glass eyes, there's not many on there (yes I looked :o ).
They don't seem to be clear but you could possibly drill out the iris.

I think some of the older contact lenses were more solid and suitable for what you want. Some of the novelty style ones cover the whole of the visable eye, I remember some film behind the scenes thing saying they were very uncomfy because they were solid, rather than newer flexible ones.

looking great man!!

when i saw the ping pong ball eye idea, i didn't think it would look so good, but scroling down and seeing the next picture changed that :D

The eye is looking great, what percentage through the project do you think you are? 70%? I can't wait til its painted and positioned up and working, will be very unique for a pc case. I think if you contact CustomPC you might be able to get a feature which would be cool.

:)

Every update makes me want to see the finished product more :D

The webcam-eye looks good as it is mate although an iris probably would look better. Keep it up :)
