Project Cars 2 is en route :D

I never liked AC or rf2 or iracing they just didn't gel with me especially in VR, project cars on the other hand did gel and was tremendous fun now pc2 is out and it's more of the same only better. Yes there are a few bugs but they should be ironed out in time. The main thing I do with pc2 is have fun I don't care if it doesn't have the best most realistic physics it is a GAME after all.:D

RANT:
I'm getting so tired of hearing/reading people compare PC2 to AC...you know what I.Just.Don't.Care.

Seems like you do care.

There is a guy in NxtGen FB group of PS4 racers who actually drives a GT3 Audi R8 for real as a racing driver...and some guys in the group wouldn't buy the game until he'd reviewed it. For the record he said as training he preferred the handling in AC and would continue to use that. So what?

So that's his experienced opinion. People asked because they trust in his real world experience and he gave it.
If they're missing out on what PC2 has to offer because they want what they think offers something closer to reality, then so what? How does that affect you?

I'm a 44 y/o accountant in the West Midlands, I'm never going to drive a GT3 car in real life, no one would offer me a racing drive. What I can do is have a really enjoyable fun time pretending to be a racing driver in VR on my rig at home...for me it's simple, I really, really enjoy PC2, the VR implementation is seamless, I can pick up and drive any car and they feel good (do i care if it's perfectly correct in every driving detail? No, but I've done some track driving and it feels very similar in cars similar to what I've driven)... does any of this matter if Kim Jong Un and Trump decide to play chicken with billions of people's lives? Not a jot.

I'm having a massive amount of fun, and that is what's important to me...I hope you're all smiling as much as I am playing this game...brilliant stuff!
RANT OVER

Nothing wrong with that. You get what you want from it, just like other people who focus purely on what they think is closer to reality lean towards other titles, and being sim nuts, they want whatever is deemed as more realistic.
It's only natural to compare. Would you have a problem if most were making the comparison saying that this is better than AC/RF2/IR in terms of physics/FFB?

Like you, I have no idea what is or isn't closer to reality and I'm not that bothered either as long it's engaging and isn't obviously ropey. PC2 mostly manages that, mainly because it offers weather and day/night stuff along with a good enough, and sometimes outstanding drive.
And yeah, it's a much more fun and fully featured game than AC, though not quite up to par in certain areas for those that focus more on those things.

Most of us are having fun with the game, but let's not make this into a gushing only thread :)

And btw, when I jokingly asked what you were on (in a manner of speaking), it was in response to this:
iRacing has had it once they get online sorted out. RF2/AC will be history...Jack Spade is a living God of FFB....

You can't really blame me :D :)

Played it for several hours now, my thoughts:

Pros

- weather and time of day effects are fantastic, it’s easily the more visually immersive sim out there
- aquaplaning on puddles is great, first time that’s been in a sim
- tons of customisation options in the settings, pretty much everything I’d want included such as the ability to lock hosted online races to incar view etc
- physics seem decent enough to have fun with even for a hardcore sim racing nerd like myself, it’s no iracing or rfactor but I can live with that.
- joypad controls actually feel quite good, maybe better than in any other sim I’ve tried.
- netcode seems pretty solid although I’ve only been in races with 10 or so cars so far. If it remains this solid with 20+ cars then I’d argue it’s second only to iracings netcode (a distant second though)

Cons:

- as good as the weather looks it doesn’t really effect the driving much. There is far too much grip in the wet, it’s near impossible to spin the rear in a GTE car in heavy rain even when mashing the throttle out of a second gear corner. Braking in heavy rain is also not much of a challenge, it should be on the edge and easier to lock up. The braking points are similar to in the dry as well... generally heavy rain should be far trickier than it is but all games tend to go cautious when simulating wet weather so it’s not like this complaint is unique to pCars.

- The FFB is a mixed bag, on both a CSW and OSW the FFB around the centre is poor and feels like there is only a generic spring effect.

- AI is predictably awful and dumb as a box of rocks. Its also unbalanced from track to track requiring constant testing to find that sweet spot where they are well matched to your skill level. They are also hopeless in the wet. You can have a dry race where you’re evenly matched but as soon as it rains I’m pumping in lap times 3-4 seconds faster than the AI. Luckily I don’t care for single player racing so this is a bit of a non issue for me.

I prefer how AC drives but I would say pCars 2 is a better overall product than AC, it just has way more stuff to do and a better track list as well.

Just in case.
On yet another note that I'm not sure has been covered here: People complaining about too much grip in the rain.
If you've left the tyres at 'choose by weather' (default) and you have rain in any one of your weather slots, it'll pick wet tyres for you and you won't notice a massive difference once the track is soaked.
Pick slicks manually if it's starting dry, and you'll soon see what's up when it pours down.

Even so, wets have maybe a little too much grip as it stands.

Seems like you do care.

You're right, voice of reason. It just wound me up a bit, obviously! I'll say no more about it.

I knew you were joking about the what I was on thing, no probs Petey.

Change of topic: I tell you what I have noticed, VR has changed my gaming habits. I used to do an hour here or there and in the summer I could go days without playing, but now I plan my day so I can get on for at least an hour every night and at weekend I rush around getting all my jobs done to maximise my gaming time. I think I'm addicted. It's like being a kid again, I can't remember the last time I had so many wow moments...

Im selling my rift now unfortunately. I only bought it for Assetto Corsa / Project Cars 1 (and now 2). I couldnt handle the motion sickness which was horrid. Its a shame really as the immersion was unbelievable, but so was the nausea
I had horrendous motion sickness in reaching games at first. I found that playing other VR games eventually allowed me to acclimatise enough to go back to them, and now I can play pcars without feeling ill

@insideline makes a good point about driving in wet weather.

The wet tyres do appear to have way too much grip - in the GT cars at least. Would be interesting to know whether this is the case in real life. I'd be surprised if it were!

OK so Formula Renault , WTF is up with that ??
Theres a bug in the slick tyres for Formula Rookie and Formula Renault too.

Have you tried the Jack Spade config files? They gave me more feeling around centre.
