Project Cars 2 is en route :D

So, decided to have a crack at race sims. Bought PC2, and a G29 with pedals and the H pattern shifter. Really good fun although I totally suck. Starting to get better but taking some time. I've got a 4790k, 16GB RAM and a 970. The graphics are pretty good. I borrowed an Oculus Rift to see what VR was like. I'll be honest, I'm absolutely blown away by the immersion. It's amazing. BUT, the graphics in the headset itself aren't great. Quite pixelated, feels like PS2\PS3 generation level detail. Is this a limitation of the headset? Or the fact I've only got a 970 driving it?

The experience is so good I'm tempted to go all in on a 1080ti but I'd be incredibly frustrated if it made no material impact to the graphical fidelity of the VR experience.

My Steam account is murfos BTW if anyone wants to add me. Happy to do some online racing in the evenings. I'm not great, but I won't ram anyone off\ruin their races etc.

Probably not got it set up as optimally as possible. it took me at least a week to get it set up the best it could be. Don't get me wrong it's far from perfect but it's definitely a lot better than you have described. However I do have a 1080.

VR is amazing and really puts you in the car. Looking out over the cockpit at the wheels in open wheel racing is something else. But yes, the quality is a limitation of the headset and I found that increasing the scaling didn't improve things much for me.

I sold mine because it made me feel sick and I love having the image quality. Until the the next few generations of VR headsets are released, i'll be sticking with 2D.

It plays great. Frame rates seem good (VR fills in missing frames to maintain 90fps?) and the movement is fantastic. It's just a little 'boxy' graphically. Essentially feels quite low res. I guess there's no easy way to measure the improvement of a 1080\1080ti over a 970 without putting one in and doing back to back tests?

So headset not graphics card? Were you running super sampling? Thankfully I've not felt any VR sickness at all in several hours of game play.

Tip for anyone looking to increase their safety rating. Don't bother with qualifying and start from the back.

You can drive through everyone else spinning off and crashing and make up a huge number of places quite easily.

Started 26, finished 5th with TC1 on Brands, lovely race.

Yeah I'd have to somewhat agree with this, it sure does work, however I did have a few races last night where I started from P2 with a good size grid and wasn't hit from behind at T1, I've had some really clean and fair races online over the last couple of days, more than those which I've had which have been a disaster from the start.

Yeh VR will always be blurry with current headsets, hopefully 4K headsets will be better.

Is there an ETA on 2nd gen VR headsets? I've only got this Oculus for maybe a week or so. I'd be a little gutted if I shelled out £500 and ended up with an out of date headset pretty quickly. New generation of Nvidia graphics cards are due early next year as well aren't they? I may soldier on in 1080p non VR with the 970 till then. Still a great game without VR. I just need to improve my skills now!
