whats everyone think to the new update to project cars 2? , update details below.

Project CARS 2 - Update 1.5.0.0

5 APRIL - NATHANBELL_SMS
Update 5 includes:
  • Addition of the Ferrari 488 Challenge car, and liveries from the 2017 Ferrari Challenge series. This is the latest Ferrari to feature in Maranello’s single-marque championship, and the most powerful car in the series’ 25-year history.
  • Addition of two new layouts to the Porsche Leipzig on-road circuit.
  • Corrected a small number of turbo and suspension issues on various cars.
  • Resolved an issue where some drivers would appear stuck on track during qualification or race session.
  • Resolved an issue where the end of race results would display incorrectly.
  • Resolved multiple ghost loading issues in time trial.
  • Polished the Online Reputation calculations, including tweaks for when players retire due to excess damage.
  • Corrected an occasional issue of players being taken to the wrong lobby if the host set up a new lobby whilst the old one was populated.
  • Mechanical failures no longer include aerodynamic damage.
  • Various improvements to the AI at a number of tracks and conditions.
  • Solved an issue in career when, under certain circumstances, the standings would not display correctly.
  • Multiple other miscellaneous fixes and optimisations.

So my modem has broken and has actually proved a bit of a blessing in disguise as it means that I have started playing this again. Its just so good with my Rift! Upped the supersampling to 1.2 and it made a fair bit of difference imo.

I always thought this game would be about getting into a supercar and just blasting it round Spa and Imola but actually some of the most fun driving can be had with the BMW M3 on Brands Hatch, its just so much fun to drive! I even love the American ring circuits and just playing about with different types of cars. Caterhams at the Texas bowl? Hell yeah!

If you fancy a bit of competition check this out www.stoopidchallenges.com, default setup time trial challenge.

Trying to use every car and track in the game, default setups so it’s a level playing field. Current Lotus 51 is an absolute dog, but I found I was always driving the same combos. This forces me to try other stuff and it’s good fun.

I always use the default setups tbh. I don't have enough interest in tweaking this, that and the other and getting into the technical nitty gritty, I just drive!

The one element I categorically cannot seem to win at is the go-karts! I just suck at them. Really suck. Always end up spinning out on a corner and when that happens the race is irretrievable.

Not got that many hours in the game to know all the tracks or the cars but Brands Hatch with the BMW M3 was really good. Its got enough grip that its forgiving, but its also really fun to throw around and be aggressive with, even if I aren't particularly interested in posting a fast time. Its just a good laugh. I've found the AI is decent enough for my skils (i.e. not very skilled).

I've only got a 1070 (not a 1080) so I am hesitant to put the supersampling up more on the Rift, but putting it to 1.2 made a big difference surprisingly.

I ran 1.5 on my 980ti...use -skipcrowds in Steam startup and make sure the sexy grass is off and you should be ok, 1.5 is defo the sweet spot. I’m really noticing the screen door though because the image is clearer lol.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I couldn't believe how much difference 1.2 made over 1.0, it made it loads better for seeing corners that were a long way off in the distance.

The rest of my system is a 6700k @4.2 GHz, 16 Gb RA and a 1070, runs pretty well and I've only once noticed a weird framerate drop. I don't know what the fps is but it feels high enough to be perfectly playable.

One other thing, is there a way to turn the virtual mirror off? It really bugs me it being there when you have a mirror in the car anyway. I like all the other features such as the track corner thingy and the other bits of the HUD but the virtual mirror is so ridiculously pointless. Either you have it in the car already, or if the car doesn't have a rear view mirror...then a virtual one isn't realistic is it!

Finally getting myself a full racing sim set up, haven’t really played much racing sim in a long time. How does it play with a g29? Any of you playing in triple screen as well as I have 3 identical monitors all on a triple arm stand.

Trying to decide between whether to dive into this or assetto corsa.

For those complaining about the online racing quality I would say, don't bother. The real racing is in league racing. The trouble with the safety rating is that nobody wants to limit their public lobbies because there are not enough online racers to get a decent number in a lobby as it is, so limiting it to C or above means you will get hardly anyway.

Instead I joined:

As an idea of the quality of the racing, here is my second race in the league.... the pile up behind was considered exceptional as those kind of events only happen once a racing season, if at all.

Also, checkout "Jardier" on Youtube and his Project Cars 2 playlists for more AOR league racing and PC2 in general.

EDIT: However, be careful what you wish for. If you wish for high quality, as-real-as-it-gets racing, you might find that is what you get. So AOR GT3 league for example are grids of 28+ cars and all of them are fast and nearly faultless drivers. The races are 1 hour long and have strict rules about conduct and track limits. So you can drive you absolutely best and be completely mistake-less for an entire hour and still only finish 12th.

Lots more rumblings regarding PC3 rolling about. Claims it will be more ambitious than anything planned by anyone else in the market. Sounds good to me!

Yep that's what they said about the first 2 as well...I'm a huge fan and was involved in the development of both through WMD, I saw how many bad decisions they were called out on, and how many bugs got splatted before release. With no community involvement this time around I just hope they put in some serious QA time. Both games promised the world but didn't quite deliver, they need to find a way for the AI to use the same, or a very similar tyre model as the player so that it's better balanced.
