Project cars benchmarks

I cannot confirm, but I've come across reports of the pre-release Windows 10 giving up to ~50% higher fps, when combined with the original AMD driver posted earlier.

When spoonfeeding developers is the difference between having a game perform optimally on ones hardware and running average/terribly, why would you not spoonfeed them when you're in the business of selling performance hardware? Developers are responsible for getting their game running at playable rates so people can play their game, it's not in their interest to spend weeks optimising performance for different hardware for a tiny minority of benchmark obsessed enthusiasts.

It's the easiest thing in the world to sit back with high expectations and then point fingers when those expectations aren't met, it's not very conducive to having happy customers though.

Well this isnt the case is it? It runs okay on Nvidia cards but should run better IMO so driver optimisations can get back this performance but the game runs abysmally on AMD hardware which shows negelect. The game isnt graphically stunning to be this performance hogging. This is down to devs neither hardware vendor should pick up this slack. Cnt wait for DX12 to come along we will defo see who the slackers are. Devs will have to do the optimisation then.

Neglect from AMD in comparison to NVidia, yes.

As long as developers' games are DirectX compatible and are playable they've done as much as they need to, anything more which benefits companies who are selling highly expensive hardware is a bonus - do developers get a cut of AMD/NVidia hardware profits for optimising? no! so why should they invest a few weeks programmer wages doing it? I suspect this is the reason AMD pushed Mantle as it offloaded all responsibility to the developer.

In a perfect world every game would run great on both AMD and NVidia hardware but much like AMD CPU's and their multithreading requirements we don't live in a perfect world, so the choice is to either "spoonfeed" developers by doing the optimisations for them or kick back and complain about them. As a customer I know which I prefer.

This title has had public feedback with a very active community for years. It is about as far away from an example of lazy developers as is possible.

Was really worried about performance after looking at some of the TX results in here...although after playing it this morning, I'm massively surprised.

I'm hitting anywhere between 60fps to 90fps @ 1440p but that was only half a grid to be fair. Ultra particles, Ultra Car Detail, Ultra Track Detail with high on all the rest. Just using MSAA though so obviously not dialled right the way up, but the game looks stunning where it is. Very happy with performance, both cards seem to sit around 70% usage so not great but not terrible.

Bodes well for AMD cards (hopefully). Not sure, but I think a single R9 290 is close to the performance of two 7950s? I'm only playing 1080p. If I can get high or ultra and 50fps I'll be happy.

295X2 - Trying 4k with no AA tonight and gunning for mostly high/Ultra unless I can find one magical setting to turn off to make 60fps in the dry attainable. I think all high might be doable at 60fps.

I had a very quick go, everything set to max but no AA did a practice run so no other cars and with rain I was getting 30fps at 4k with 295x2 + 290x, no multicard scaling at all. I haven't looked into at all yet though so could easily fixed.

In terms of features, content and graphics, yes. Assetto still tops it for outright driving though.
It's all good, I have room in my life for both :)

Something totally isn't right with this. I installed it and it automatically set itself to the highest possible settings at 4k apart from the grass which I manually added to the highest myself. It runs really sweet, but if I load FRAPS it just sits there stuck on 24 and doesn't change at all.

I think there's something odd going on here.

I think that's just fraps bud, It hasn't been updated since February 2013.

Oh OK yeah that would make sense. The game runs really smoothly at 4k with absolutely no stutter or input lag and inputs are quick and precise so there's no way I'm getting 24 FPS.

I thought it was because the game originally set itself to 4k res with 23hz but I changed that to 59.
