Really like this thread. Missed it until now. Lots of credit to you for putting the effort and money into keeping an old car and good nick, not a lot of ppl understand that sort of thing

Thanks mate - I hate to add up how much it has cost me to date, but the car has sentimental value to me, and I love the E39's too :) hopefully it'll all be worth it when it's done!

I see the offending photo has been removed.... :p

Yes :(

Adding up the number is never a good idea, on anything involving cars especially. I spent a shade under 200 on 8 bushes today for the rear end of an 18 year old bm that ive barely driven yet am in the process of restoring.

Its fun, I think thats what counts

Rebushing all the arms? You never hear of people doing that, mainly just trailing arms and maybe the subframe.
I have HSD coilovers on my 36 now, not yet got the FCAB and RTAB fitted or had the geo set up but it drives amazing now. I did measure up the front end to get an idea, currently on 1/4" toe out and just under 3deg camber, amount of front end grip available is utterly retarded, these cars seem to love front camber.

Definitely :D to be fair, I have learnt a great deal doing all this.. bodywork wise and car wise. I know the car inside out, even more so than I did when I first started! I also never plan on selling her, so who cares!

Toe out, in my experience, normally dulls the steering input noticeably. I got evo top mounts and reversed them, which sorted the front but highlighted how naff the rear was

The bushes are for the rear control arms, so more boxes of lemforder bits.

Was you still after a set of sunflower wheels?

Hmm, I hope you are right, my only complaint now is that I wish it was more lively. That's just how it ended up after fitting the suspension, didn't want to waste money having it done twice before and after changing bushes. I'll try setting it parallel with string today and see what difference it makes.

Should be fairly similar to how mine is then. I too have noticed that since the front end has become much stronger, the rear is notably weaker. For example if you storm round a roundabout and load up the front end heavily then the rear will get loose as soon as you breathe on the throttle. No static camber to speak of at all in the rear currently though. Also am running a non-staggered setup. I like it drifty though so it isn't a problem for me.

Yes, I've had a lot of trouble with the tyres not clearing the coilovers, that would be great.

5/04/2012 - 8 months since my crash and still car-less!

Most of it masked up, bit more to do tomorrow (i.e. windows and stuff) and then ready to be sprayed :) pics to follow! Looks far better now we've taken off that spoiler.

P.S My masking skills are improving slightly lol

Ace. I cannot understand paint, it never works out for me and I hate it! Seeing those pics is amazing

Thanks mate, neither can I, so I left my friend to it and this was the result! So pleased! Now just need to get the bumpers done and body-wise the car will be sorted! :D :D

She should look gorgeous once flatted and polished.

Sweet! Love to see projects like this :). I'd love to have the skill, ability and patients to do something like this (without the crashing).

Lookin great. Got the bumpers done yet?

Thanks mate :) bumpers I am holding back on for a little bit as I am aim to get the car back home tomorrow. I need to clear my garage out and put it in there before dry-fitting the bumpers (probably should have done this before). If there is any adjustment to do I will do this before sending them off to be painted. I'm also waiting on some BMW plastic things to fit the bumpers on with (I think they call them adjusters lol), as mine disappeared with my bumper when I crashed. Hopefully they will also be here tomorrow!

As far as updates go, I have bought some bumper rivets and some plasti-dip for de-chroming the trim.. but that's about it! :D

I'll put up some more pictures (hopefully tomorrow) when I get the car back after it has been flatted and polished.

just a small point about the plastic strip round the doors bumpers... on my little resto, im considering having those removed, painted black and then lacquered to give them a gloss black finish

they wont dull, i think itll be a good look
