Project Ethos & Cube - Desk Awesomeness

It'd look awesome if you were to change to something like an Aurora fluid in the future having the clear acrylic.

Or, you could stick with copper, and instead paint it white. This will give you the same overall effect, and will probably be cheaper!

Painting copper pipe will make it harder to change the colour scheme later, if it's clear you just change the fluid.

Wow quick reply.

Ye I could paint the pipes, but having it clear could look great.
Especially if I use some lighting in certain sections.

Also its a bit of a new experience :)

I've set up instant email notifications for this thread... ;)

I think go for it with the clear acrylic - every other decision you've made so far looks awesome! :)

I am definitely going to start my own project soon. Any chance of some up to date piccy's to keep us all salivating over your setup? Actually I do have one question. I was thinking about the thickness of the desk, would it not restrict how high you could have your chair (from your knee's) and so be a little uncomfortable as your arms would be higher than usual? I look at my current desk and its gotta be 1/2" max as I have taken out the keyboard tray due to its restriction on the knee's...

Hey man.

Ye the thickness is what caught me out the first time.
If you look at the origional sketchup it was thick enough for a full size GPU and everything standing up.
But this caused my legs and arms to be uncomfortable.

See here:

So we had to improvise.

I then decided that the Server would be come half height and cut off the top of the desk.

We took out the top draw, and dropped the desk down into that top draw which then would house the full size Gaming mobo and full size GPU and anything else I could throw at it.

Like so:

This gave us about 100mm or so off the top.
It works nicely now.

I haven't done too much, as I'm waiting on new mobos' and cpu's and things.
So got nothing to update at the moment.

I have done the 3 fans at the back and sleeved them.
Tested that out and it works nicely on the fan controller.

Ahh, I understand. I must admit Savell I didn't realise until precisely now why you needed me to make the server tray half height.

So some more toys arrived.

4x 3tb WD Reds - This will be their general layout.

I have also just spent WAY too much money on the Deluxe White Bitspower fittings...
I've decided to change the copper pipe to use Acrylic tubing.
As such I have changed out all the old fittings to Deluxe White to match the liquid :)

Thanks for the info and stuff I'm sooo looking forward to seeing this project completed and I most definitely will be doing something similar soon (just getting married first so that has to take precedence!). Another question. Why 2 puters? (i'm guessing you have a need for an always on server?)....

Haha sorry :(

I've been away for the last week due to work.

But I have the hardware in the office for my server.
So will be building that hopefully when I get back.

Still waiting on the Maximus VI Formula which should be released next month.

So I'll take new pics when I get to rebuilding ;)

Also have a new HTPC to build :D

Sorry I have taken more pics.
But dont have them on me.

Also been pretty busy lately I have all my family over from around the world so its been a crazy time.

Will upload pics tonight if I can.

So a small update.

Took out my HTPC and started the rebuild:

Need to make new PSU cables for the server.
And get the HDD's connected.

I have a nice plan to mount the HDD's in the desk so it looks good.
At least I hope ;)
