Project Ethos & Cube - Desk Awesomeness

Ye I could and probably will mostly.
Also remember I will have white LED's under the trays tho.
I'll have a play around to find the proper routing.

Few new things turned up.

This is because of changing my rack into the Lounge, I have to re-do all my networking.

So something small and Cisco'y turned up:
img0531iq.jpg

A little 8 port PoE switch, I got this one so it could power my Cisco AP in the spare room still, without needing an injector:
img0533vl.jpg

But upon opening the box, I was greeted with a really bad rattle sound.
Like something metal was loose inside the switch.

Looking in, you could see the heatsink has become loose and is smashing around in there.
So I have RMA'd the unit, and will hopefully get a new one early next week. Sigh.

Also some more Watercooling parts turned up :)
Hopefully tonight I can start working more on the power cables as that will get me going nicely.

Will keep you posted with any more updates :)
Hope you enjoy it.

So today I started off by double checking the PSU before doing any work to it.

img0411js.jpg

Not too shabby.

First cable done.

Test fitting.
img0433jy.jpg

Found it a bit tight.

Lots of the Seasonic PSU cables require having 2 cables in 1 slot.
Had to try figure this out.

img0437fs.jpg

Think it came out ok.
img0439mm.jpg

Looking good I think.
img0443h.jpg

img0446te.jpg

img0455sl.jpg

So after playing a bit I found that the 2 cables in 1 would not be able to fit in.
So re-did the cables using the heatshrinkless method.
Looks really clean.

Took some shots of it.

Some more test fittings.

You can see the middle white cable is so much thicker, this is the one with 2 cables in 1.

Also thought I would take the time to show you where im coming from:

I really need to get a macro lense.
I will borrow my bro in-laws macro lense and then take some better pics.

But think they are looking nice now.

Seriously impressive build, but i would have done the cable braiding a bit different on the double cables. i would have had them so the plug only has single cables and then have the double cables join up somewhere out of sight just for uniformity of cable thicknesses where you can see it.

it certainly looks fine the way it has been done but if/when i finally get a build as amazing as this (never) i will kick into OCD overdrive :D

has anybody mentioned how much they want this thing yet?

Your right, and I did think this.
But then that requires soldering which I don't really want to do.

It is slightly noticeable but I think I'm over it :)
Making these cables took a lot more effort starting than I thought it would haha.

It was pretty easy actually.

YouTube: Lutro0 Customs - Heatshrinkless Sleeving
That will give you a good walkthrough on how to do it.

Fitted the mobo to the tray, and did some testing.
Just making sure it all fits fine with the actual hardware.

I/O Shield fitted.

Testing the LED's under the tray.
Remember it will be lined below under the tray.
Also the LED's are not stuck down, so 1 or 2 of them twisted.
But you get the idea.

Thanks all for now :)

Some more WC parts arrived :)

img0537av.jpg

img0540ru.jpg

Just waiting on a few more fittings and other bits and pieces.

But now you can start to see how the WC loop will look.

Small update.

Some more fittings arrived.
Its a mixture of Bitspower and Koolance (for the copper pipe).
Still waiting on a few 60 degree Bitspower fittings.

Getting incredibly difficult to source in the UK these days.

So mixture of fittings:

img0564pv.jpg

Playing around with fitting the 2x EK res.
Its using Bitspower SLI fittings at the bottom, so you will see the liquid going between the Res :)
img0566gn.jpg

I will do the same to the top:
img0568np.jpg

Thats all for now.
Hopefully soon I will start doing some proper work on it again.

Bit of an update from today.
Did:
1) Make cover for Blu-Ray drives
2) Mount vandal switches
3) Drilled holes for mobo tray
3) Cut outs for cable from PSU at the back
4) Run network cable under the carpet to link the desk to the TV unit

Designing and thinking of the cover:

From the back did a larger hole so that we could use the nut

All 4 holes done.
Top 2 for power switches

Bottom 2 switches are slightly smaller and these are reset

It needs to get sanded down and also another tool to cut it straight (didn't have it on us :()
