They look like they havent been crimped properly, overtightening them would not cause that fault as the thread is a totally different part to the hose seal.

Quoted for Truth, Emphasis and Great Justice™.

Keep at 'em DreX, I can't imagine it was anything other than a manufacturing fault going by those pics.

Please, for the sake of the kittens, don't let this car die. Ever. It's shaping out to be awesome, and I can only hope that one day I may be able to witness it in action.

Minor setback it may be, but what a disappointment/PITA!

A certain prodigy song comes to mind, blackand white and set in a tunnel :D

Unfortunate events there, but no doubt you'll be up and running again soon.

Just got an email back from the line supplier, they are giving me a full refund for the oil line and fittings kit

I went to Merlin Motorsports this morning and got a Goodridge fitting, fitted it to the hose, repaired a couple of other damaged wires, topped the oil back up and fired up the engine, and it fired straight up and ran perfectly, no leakes or anything. Then I blipped the throttle and it stuck open

I switched the engine straight off and had a closer look at the throttle cable, and it's goosed :(

I originally thought it would would be OK because although part of the outer sheath had been scorched, the innner metal sheath looked OK, but as it turns out there is another plastic sheath around the actual cable itelf, this has totally melted so the cable cannot move freely.

I phoned my local Honda dealer, and apart from being ridiculously expensive, they have none in stock and it needs to be back-ordered from Honda.

So that's it, the car wont be at Japfest :(

Still, at least it's running and there was minimal damage.

Or in other words "we completely ****** up, we're doing this so that you don't sue us for killing your car with fire"

Indeed.

its a real pain you can get the hose manufacturer to pay for the replacement of the parts damaged, but as with most businesses they'll have a way of wriggling out of any damage caused by their shoddy product :(

Surely someone local must have a throttle cable! Didn't someone earlier in the thread suggest another car that has a shorter cable, so it'll run round the back of the engine, rather than round the front?

:(

To be fair on you dude, a lot of people would have reacted the same. A lot will say, "I can't believe you stood there and didn't try and get an extinguisher" - I'd like to see them in the same situation ;)

If it was me the tears from crying like a baby would probably have put it out :D

EDIT- damn, after all that work and its a bloody throttle cable that keeps you from Japfest :(

I've asked on a couple of forums.

Jesus christ... I echo housemaster's views. Get rid of the thing, its jinxed! :(

Really wish you the best of luck Ben.

Quick update, car is back up and running now. I've given the engine a quick cleanup, fitted a new throttle cable, and moved the expansion bottle downwards and fitted a new air-filter in a better location (crap quality pics I'm afraid):

As you can see the engine needs a proper clean-up, but it's not too bad now.

I also bought and fitted this:
